Best Moderate resort at WDW
We're planning on taking a WDW trip in April and wanted to stay in one of the Moderate hotels. We've stayed at the Coranado and really liked it but wanted to try something different. We have a 4 year old, (if that matters) Could you please tell me which Moderate resort you like best and why. TIA

We have stayed at and loved Port Orleans French Quarter. It is small and easy to navigate. The buses are shared with PO Riverside but stop at French Quarter first. The food Court is very nice and there is a sit down restaurant at Riverside. It is fairly centrally located to most parks, and there is a boat to Downtown Disney.

I've never stayed there, but friends were raving about the Pop Century resort last weekend. They have stayed there 3 times this year! They said the best part is the food concessions, which makes it more affordable with kids. Also there is a private bus from this resort to the parks.

My favorite is Port Orleans Riverside - they have a sit down restaurant, big food court, great entertainment in the lounge on Wed-Sat (seriously a can't miss show that's fun for everyone!), they have a boat to downtown disney. They do share a bus with the French Quarter which can be a drawback if they are really crowded but that's most likely a bigger problem if you are travelling at park opening & closing times.
French Quarter would be my second choice because it's small so there's never a hike to your room.
These two resorts are sister resorts so you can use the ammenities of both resorts if you are a guest at either one.

We stayed last year at the Caribbean and would totally recommend it. The food court was great there was a ton of selection which we used many days for breakfast or just drinks and snacks. The pool was really nice with a kids section.
Its pretty big but we called in advance of our vacation and requested to be near the food court building and we were about a 2 minute walk so it worked out great.

We just got back from Port Orleans French Quarter and although it was small and convenient, I thought the rooms were gross...I wouldn't stay there again. I would try Coronado, Riverside, or Caribbean

this is what I've read on other websites. Port Orleans is very old and some ppl say it shows really bad. We stayed at the Coranado two years ago and loved it, I was just wondering if we should try another resort.
I think we may try the Caribbean, maybe stay in a pirate room or something.

Re: Best Moderate resort at WDW
I never loved the Carribbean. I always think "maybe I'll try a moderate" but then I always end up just going cheap and staying at a Value resort. Last trip we stayed at the Pop Century. I miss when I was a kid and my parents paid and we'd stay at the Beach Club! lol.
When I was younger, we used to go to a restaurant at Port Orleans, but I don't think it's there anymore.
I never stayed at Coronado, but if you've had a good experience there, maybe don't bother trying to fix what isn't broken?
It's still Disney, so you should have a really wonderful trip, no matter where you decide to stay.

Another vote for Port Orleans French Quarter. The rooms there shouldn't be "gross" as they were all redone last year. It is a good size, gorgeous, has a great food court.
I also like the Caribbean Beach.
FWIW the Cornado is my least favorite.

Is this the one with the dragon slide in the pool?

Re: Best Moderate resort at WDW
Honestly, with a 4 year old, I'd want to stay somewhere closer to Magic Kingdom.
Check out the Cabins at Fort Wildnerness. I highly recommend them.
Plus, Fort Wilderness is a great place for young kids.
ETA: You can take the boat over to Magic Kingdom and hop on the monorail for Epcot instead of dealing with buses all the time. As a kid, I used to love taking the WDW boats!

Re: Best Moderate resort at WDW
We stayed at Port Orleans french qaurter, With 2 kids , it was great. Always had a spot on the bus, The fact that we could get right on boat to shopping area, and the pool was a big plus with my older one. He loved the dragon slide. We requested a room close to food court, and it was close, but not too close..Also, we had snacks, food and diapers, water, and baby food shipped from a local market right to the room. That was a huge plus...Less to bring on plane. The room was pretty clean, no complaints.

Re: Best Moderate resort at WDW
Port Orleans, hands down. DH and I have stayed at both the French Quarter and Riverside and loved both. It's relatively quiet and scenic, and we loved taking the boat to Downtown Disney. The food there is pretty good compared to most of the moderate resorts as well.
