best friend's dog died - need ideas
My best friend's dog got out of the yard last night. They found him this morning on the side of the road a few blocks away. It seems he was hit by a car. My BFF is devestated. She loves her dogs more than people. She told me in a text because she's not ready to talk about it. I know how much her doggie means to her, so I'd like to do something nice for her. I'm not an animal person at all so i'm finding it hard to come up with ideas. Any animal lovers out there have any suggestions or ideas about something I could do that she would appreciate or find comforting?
TIA

Maybe even a little boquet of flowers. You want her to know you understand that this is a true loss. I know for me, I found many did not understand the bond of me and my dog and the loss I was experiencing. Just acknowledging her loss, I am sure she will appreciate it.

As an animal lover & owner my dog getting hit by a car is my worst nightmare...just let her know you are there for her and treat it like a family member dying...cause that's how us pet people feel about our furry ones (even if others see it as just an animal)

I like the idea of sending a nice card and maybe some flowers.

Send her the Rainbow Bridge Poem and just be there for her. They sell pet bereavement cards in the stores, I'd send her one of those.

Re: best friend's dog died - need ideas
While I'm a very specific gift-giver and like to tailor it to the occasion or person, this may not be the time for that, depending on how she is. I did some searches on Etsy for "dog memorial" and found a lot of ideas, but they may be things she can choose to do herself. Carved stones with the dog's name, a pawprint to put out in the garden. Boxes for their leash or ashes, pendants with a paw print and the dog's name, dog statues with angel wings for the yard...
It doesn't have to be that specific. If she knows that you truly care and won't judge her for the grief she feels, that's the best thing you can do for her.

Thanks for the suggestions. I decided to send her a basket of dasies from 1800 flowers with a note attached from me and my husband that reads "Pets leave imprints in our hearts and loving memories in our minds. May the love you shared with Roxxy live forever in your hearts. We are so sorry for your loss."
I hope that's good.

That is so appropriate. She is going to love and appreciate this thought.

Whenever a friend's pet dies, I make a memorial donation to an animal shelter. Last time I had to do this, I donated to North Shore Animal League -- You can do it online and you can make it a memorial donation for the pet. They will send a letter to your friend, too.
So sorry for your friend's loss.

I've done this too in the memory of a pet.

Re: best friend's dog died - need ideas
My vet sent me the rainbow bridge poem with a packet of forget me not seeds to plants. They never grew since I am plant killer. But, I was sooo touched by the gesture.

I sent this bookcalled: Goodbye Friend, to my brother when his dog died. I've read it, and it's very touching and beautiful
