Besides Cancun UPDATE
where else would you visit in MX that doesn't have a layover?
Never been there and are looking into going next month.

So we just got back from vacation on Saturday and we had the best time!
We stayed at the Hotel BlueBay Grand Esmeralda in Playa del Carmen and were very happy with it. The only complaint we had were the sales pitches for their time share. We ended up doing the 90 min tour for the $100 voucher, free bottle of tequila and a beach bag
We did 2 excursions. The 1st one we went to Tulum, Coba Ruins, had lunch with some villagers, jumped and swam in a Cenote.
And the 2nd we did ATV's, Zip lining and another Cenote.
The rest of the time we just hung at the resort on the beach, by the pools , the bars and enjoyed the activities.
Thanks again for your help in a location. This was our 1st time in Mexico and we said we would definitely go back. We did so much and there is still so much to see and do.

Riviera Maya is south of Cancun. You fly to Cancun and drive south. We had a fantastic time at Rosewood Mayakoba and neighboring resorts also looked fabulous.
I did not like Cancun that much, even when I was younger.

My inlaws love Puerto Vallarta - I think there is a layover one way (they book a flight with a layover in the US). DH and I have done Cabo and we liked it but, we stayed far from downtown San Lucas and felt kind of stuck at the resort.

It was about an hour drive from the airport. We took a hotel shuttle.
I was a bit skeptical but it was the best vacation ever. Can't wait to go back.

we just did Riviera Maya this year too. The ride to and from the airport to the resort wasn't bad at all. We did not use the hotel shuttle. We booked a private shuttle so we weren't making any other stops, etc. We loved it!

We booked a shuttle through the hotel. I think it cost ~$150. Can't remember the cost but ride wasn't bad at all. The ride seemed quicker than I had expected.

Isla Mujeres!!! 20 minute ferry ride from Cancun. It's a separate island & amazing! The water is so clear & calm, I found the beaches in Cancun & Riviera Maya were a little rougher.

We stayed at Bayan Tree Mayakoba, which is on the same property as the Rosewood, and it was by far one of my favorite vacations. Hotel is only 30 minutes from the airport and easy to get to.

I will check it out.
He's coming over tonight so we can look through places together and hopefully book it.
I haven't been on a beach vacation in over 4 yrs. Every time I went away it was to see my daughter in AK.

Chichen Itza is cool too. You can get some good pictures.
I have XCaret and Xel Ha as places I want to go to next time I am in Mexico. Looks really fun.

That place looks incredible.
We looked into Tullum but decided it was more than we wanted you spend right now, since it was so last minute.
We booked something in Playa del Carmen and leave in less than 3 weeks!
