BD Timing

Anyone wait for a peak on the cbefm or a positive opk to start bding?

My past strategy has been every other day starting day 10 or so then every day at peak , but I'm wondering if I should just have DH "build it up" till the surge. Chat Icon

Also, if strictly doing the every other day thing, do you skip the day of the opk surge if you bd the night before? For example BD on day 10 & 12, surge on day 13 but skip it because you did it the night before, then BD on day 14 and 16?

Re: BD Timing

We are going to try the "build up" until the surge strategy this month. Last month, we BD'ed several days prior to the surge, then the day of the surge and three days after. We wondered if we diminished the "reserves" with all that BD'ing and we're going to try abstaining a few days before the surge this time. I don't know if there's any merit to that, but we're going to try it. Chat Icon

DH and I BD'd 17 times up to, including, and after O and still got a BFN last month. We are also thinking that we diminished the reserves and are going to try a little more conservative approach this month. Definitely BD the day or days you see EWCM or your most fertile CM. If using OPK's, you will want to BD when you get your +OPK and the next 2 days.

We were doing the every other day thing but i was ovulating way later than i thought possible. The month that I got pregnant we waited until EWCM which did not occur until day 19. Then we did it once or twice a day until one day past ovulation. I think that abstaining and then doing it all the time helped!

DH and I tried both the abstaining and BDing like rabbits method. The month that I got my BFP, we BD 4 days before the O date, the morning of the O date (got a high on the CBFM that AM) and the day after the O date.

DH jokes that the "boy's" were waiting for the egg to pop out! MEN!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: BD Timing

last month we too started bding every other day from cd10. Then when i finally got my surge on the opk (day 17)we bd all 3 days. ( I ovulated very late cd19). After that I had absolutely no desire to bd again! I was tired of bding-lol. This month I think I have to change my approach as well. My dh is 42 (I'm 32) and think maybe we wasted all the "swimmers" and had nothing left for the big day. Im not sure how to approach things this month. I read that it is good to keep the sperm "fresh" and not to go too many days without bding (like not longer than a week maybe-I forgot where I read it so it may not be totally correct). Did any one else read this? maybe its only with older men-lol

Yes, I read the "no longer than a week thing too." I also read 4-5 days of abstinence before the fertile period.

the 4-5 day abstinence sounds like a good plan. Maybe I will try that approach when I get closer to fertile period. Thanks :) Chat Icon to all of us.

I've also been praying a LOT to St. Gerard for all of us. (The Catholic Parton Saint of Motherhood). I KNOW our prayers will be answered-just don't know when. :)

I'm glad to hear of another person who prays to St. Gerard. My mother's neighbor swears by this. Chat Icon I think it is a nice prayer.

Re: BD Timing

I've never heard of an abstinence before the surge strategy from any medical source -- from any doctor or research I've read its said basically that you don't want the stuff sitting around in him for days. Every other day is what I've seen as optimum for balancing freshness and quantity...

Re: BD Timing

Actually, Toni Weschler advises this in her book TCOYF on p. 167. I've also read it in other sources as well. The advice is to abstain for several days before the fertile period (ewcm or wet days.) This will allow the man to build up a high enough count to take advantage of ideal cervical fluid. That being said, I've also read that abstinence of over a week will result in poor quality sperm. Who knows really. I'm just so desperate and it's the only strategy I haven't tried yet. I need something to hang onto at this point.
