bc question
my doc told me that she wants me off bc 6months before we start ttc. a few other girls told me they went off the pill waited for the 1st af then tried. some say they started right a way ..
when you got off the pill how long did you wait?
not ttc just yet .. just trying to educate myself

I have never used BC but my mom who is a Registered Nurse said it is best to give yourself a year before TTC after coming off the pill. My friend just recently got off the pill and her gyno told her to wait a year. My mom said why the wait is so that you can get all that stuff out your system.

my dr. told me two months before TTC...I came off in September, and this is our first month actively TTCing

I had 2 different doctors tell me to wait 2 months before TTC. I've never heard of waiting a year.

Well, basically it does not stay in your body that long but my friend gyno and my mom who is a registered nurse said that it is best to give yourself a year.

it's funny how dr's are so different. Mine told me it only takes 24 hours since you took your last pill to exit your system, then the chemicals are completely out of your system and there's no reason to delay TTC.

This is true. It does not "stay in your system" like people say. Thats why if you miss a pill (and why you should take it the same time every day) while you are on BC you can get PG.
The reason why the Drs want you to go off BC a few months before TTC is because your body may not regulate itself right away - your cycles could be all screwy for awhile. You should wait - so you know the length of your cycles. That way the Dr. will be able to determine your date of conception and more accurately figure out the due date.
However, you most definitely can get PG the first month off the pill.
I am not TTCing yet either, but have been off the pill for 2 months and am trying to understand my cycle. Its a lot of work!!

My midwife told me when we're ready to call her. At that time she will precribe me prenatals and advise me to stop taking the pill.
She said to use an alternate method of protection for 2-3 months and then we will be free and clear.

My Dr told me that the 1/2 life of the hormones in the pill is 24 hours...therefore you can go off the pill as late as you want, but theyl ike you to have at least one natural period so they can track you - but it is not necessary.

it is interesting how so many doctors give different opinions! mine gave me the go ahead to start right away and told me to call if i was not pregnant in 6 months. but we haven't started... yet.

My doctor told me to its ok to try right after but she suggested to wait for 3 periods to begin trying which I did and kind of regret because its taking me longer than I thought it would...I've been off for 6 months.

I was on the pill for 15 years. I was off for one month before we TTC. My cycle regulated quickly. No BFP yet though.

My gyno told me he wanted me to have at least 1 period off of birth control. I went off last month and I got my period today (sorry if TMI) just like I normally would have (a day early actually) So after AF leaves its a go for us!!
