My FIL is a kitchen designer and while he is mostly booked through next spring that is from jobs he signed months ago. He has a 40 year reputation in the business is semi-retired (no longer has a showroom) and only works on word of mouth now. While he is still getting calls, it's not the same amount per week he used to get. Like I said, he's semi-retired and only started the business up again with the refinancing boom several years ago. He doesn't have a staff, rent to pay etc. He can close it all up with the last job and spend time with his grandkids. He doesn't need to do it. I remember the name of company you posted. They are under pressure. They spend tens of thousands of dollars each month in advertsing and have a HUGE payroll of employees, and expensive showroom real estate. They got used to the wave but it's not guaranteed. It's a very cyclical business tied to the economy. EDIT for spelling. Does this mean your FIL will be free to do my kitchen soon? I want a visit! I told you what you need to do. Lay out in a bikini next to a pool and if you don't have one, borrow someone elses and take a picture with you laying next to it. Then e-mail me a bunch of pictures of the new house... mostly kitchen and bathroom, what you want done and DISCREETLY, YEAH RIGHT include the bikini clad picture of you by the pool. I'll open up the e-mail for him to show him the pictures of the kitchen and baths for his design ideas... YEAH RIGHT and say "Oh, BTW, look at her GREAT POOL"... Then I'll have to get out of the way... because the suction from his body leaving the house at such lightning speed for the next flight to LAX might hurt me!! Now everyone will think my FIL is a perv... he's all talk and no action. He told one of my co-workers this weekend that he was "in love" with her... she's a very tall blonde... and always comes across as kidding. I don't know how he'd get the cabinets to you though He deals exclusively with a cabinet company out of Pennsylvania. For my SIL's kitchen in WI, I think he had them delivered here then he and his nephew drove a truck to WI... not sure. Message edited 6/29/2006 2:10:58 PM.
