Basic star
In the mail i got the basic star application but im already recieving the star benefits. Am i suppose to fill this out every year?? Also i got it in the mail on friday jan 6 n on the form it says must b completed by jan 1. My friend got hers the same day. Thoughts?!?!?

There was a change for this year that for the first time there is an income limit with the Basic Star. That could be why you received something in the mail. Or, and this is the most likely scenario, Nassau County made a mistake with another mass mailing.
If you are already receiving the STAR benefits, I'd fill it out and send it in anyway. You have nothing to lose.

According to the FAQ page on the assessors website the income limit for basic STAR is $500,000. (Here's the link, can't do it direct because I am posting from my phone)

I received the letter on Thursday, and have tried to call as well but couldn't get through. The county really needs to get their act together. I didn't see anything on the website addressing the matter. They could at least put something !!

It's a combined taxable income of $500,000.

I am relieved to hear more people got this letter and its a mistake, I rec'd this letter Friday afternoon, postmarked 1/5/12, meanwhile telling me the application (which I filled out last year already) was due on 1/2/12. I've been trying to call all morning and I keep getting a busy signal.

As an update for those still waiting to get through: I finally got in touch with someone. I was told the letters were sent out in error, and to ignore it. Thank goodness!
