Baking for the troops ideas?

So my DD's class at pre k are baking treats ( well we the moms are) for the troops. I am trying to think of good stuff that I could bake that would last until they receive it and will taste good...all I can think of right now is cookies -probably M&M xmas cookies and choc chip....

Anything else?

Also I know they will be boxed and shipped but how should I box them up - gladware with parchment paper in between layers?

I would pack every layer in a ziploc bag so it stays fresh.

When i send things to my brother i try to avoid chocolate. It is SO hot over there that im sure it would melt veryquickly!

Re: Baking for the troops ideas?

Not to be negative, but the troops are advised to throw away home made baked goods, because they don't necessarily know where they are coming from/who's kitchen.

Is this a program, where the gov't is letting the kids bake?
