Bad News and a Thank You
Back in November, I posted about my stepmom, whom I consider my mom, as she raised me since I was 5 years old. She was diagnosed with inoperable metastatic lung cancer on Nov. 6th, that also was in her brain. My beloved mom immediately started radiation and then chemotherapy. Thankfully, she was responding very well to her treatments and had a petscan showing that the lung cancer was melting away, and the brain tumor was obliterated by the Cyber Knife laser that she received. She was able to take vacation in Miami with my dad, sisters and her best friend of over 50 years. (DH and I couldn't go due to time and money constraints.) She was able to lay in the warm sun on the beach, which was her absolute favorite pasttime. She shared a few margharitas with her loved ones too.
Well, on Monday, March 21st at 1:50am, I got a frantic phone call from my dad. He told me that he and my older sister had just finished giving my mom chest compressions and that EMTs were working on her. He told me that my mom woke up coughing (which was common for her) and then started vomiting blood. Thankfully, my sister was still at my parents' house (she was set to go back to Chile the following day, where she and her boyfriend live, since my mom was doing so well.) I told my dad to calm down and that I would meet them at Mather Hospital. Unfortunately for me, being a cop for over 13 years, I knew exactly what was happening once my dad told me that he did chest compressions for 10 minutes. 
I raced to the hospital and met my dad and sister, and were joined moments later by my mom's best friend for over 50 years and her husband. Shortly thereafter, my brother and younger sister arrived. And at 2:45am it was official, our beloved had passed into another world. A world that we can only hope has eternal white sandy beaches, warm sun, frozen margharitas (with good tequila) and the love of those whom we've lost in years past. We were able to say our goodbyes and left the hospital in a state of shock and haze. As I turned on my car to drive to my parents' house, the Beatles', "Here Comes the Sun," came on the radio. I would like to think that it was a message sent to me from my angel whom I called "Banana"; a code to let me know that she was okay.
The necessary arrangements were made and carried out, people came and went, food and lots of alcohol were consumed. We received an outpouring of love from family and friends, old and new. I would like to take the time to especially thank several wonderful ladies from LIF who took the time to reach out to me, offer their sincere condolences, kind thoughts and love. So, thank you for your comfort: Catherine, Colette, Debbie, Dina, Heather and April. Your words meant more than you could ever imagine.  
Thank you to all of the LIFers who prayed for my mom back in Nov. when she was first diagnosed and I asked for some help in getting me thru. And thank you to all who will read this now and keep my dad and our family in their thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace Rosanna Banana. You taught me how to be a woman, wife, friend and mother and I will be eternally grateful for having you raise me.

I'm so sorry. I feared from recent posts of FB that this was what had happened but I was to scared to acknowledge it. I know how much you loved her and what a wonderful woman she was. I'm so glad she was able to spend the holidays with you all and meet beautiful Alexandria and spend some time in a warm place with friends.
Even though she isn't here with you physically she's with you in your heart and spirit. The love that she showed you is reflected in the same love you show your girls and family so she is always close at heart. Much love to you and your beautiful family!
