Bad mommy?

Looking for honesty but not judgment please. Ugh. So I am a SAHM to 2 yo triplets, one of whom has mild special needs and about 9 therapy sessions a week. In other words I don't get out much lol. Anyway I was suppose to do paint nite with a bunch of friends I haven't seem in forever. It's pathetic how much I was so looking forward to this and I already paid for it :/ I just realized it's the same night as back to school night at my kids preschool. Two of them were there for camp this summer so I have been there lots of times. I am starting my special needs son there for the first time. I have had several conversations already with the school about his gross motor and speech issues and his needs. Anyway about 95 percent of me knows I just have to bail on paint nite, but 5 percent of me thinks maybe I can just send DH to open school? I mean, he is his parent too! I don't know, never had a back to school night, are they really important? Could my DH handle this alone? Ugh as I type this I feel like I should just do open school.

Bad mommy?

I would just have my DH go. If you have questions for the teacher, you can email him/her or set up a meeting.

Go to Paint Night! Send your DH if you aren't comfortable with something then schedule a meeting. Your mental health matters

If you feel comfortable sending DH there is nothing wrong with that. I'm sure there are plenty of dads who go instead of the mom. If you really feel that you want to be at the back to school night, I'm sure you're friends would understand. It's up to you but it sounds like you really looking forward to the paint nite and can use a night out. Whatever you decide in the end is a fine decision and don't feel bad about it Chat Icon

Go to paint night! You deserve a break. You know the school and the teachers. Let dh go. If you want a follow up I'm sure you can schedule a meeting or call/email.

Absolutely go to paint night! As you said, your husband is just as much the parent as you. There's not a rule that Mom has to go or both parents have to go. Take the night out and enjoy yourself!

Sounds like you are well aware of how the school runs as a mom w two children there. IMO this is for new parents primarily. Also as a SAHM you will be able to more involved on a daily basis, I would not miss you're rare night out! Send DH!!

Go to Paint Night and don't feel guilty! When I worked in a special ed preschool, Open School Night consisted of meeting the classroom staff and therapists and getting a brief overview of what types of activities went on in the classroom and in therapy. You already have developed a repoire with the people working closely with your DC, so there's really no need for you to be there, honestly! Chat Icon

Re: Bad mommy?

Go to paint night. It seems like you know the school pretty well already, and thats what open house is about. Its not a time to talk about your kids. Even if your dh cant go to open house, I would still choose to go to paint night, being that you have such exposure already!

And kudos to you for raising triplets Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree! However, it was kindergarten last year and this year my DH and I are fighting over who goes and who gets to stay home with DS. None of us want to go Chat Icon

Enjoy yourself. Don't feel guilt. Don't be a martyr, you're already a saint !!

Re: Bad mommy?

Go to paint night and send DH to the preschool. If you really need to you can always schedule a one-on-one meeting with the teacher some other time.

Re: Bad mommy?

Thank you ladies, I am so glad I posted! I was really expecting to hear that it would be terrible to miss open school night for something as trivial as a girls night. Thank you all for recognizing how badly I needed a little escape. My DH will go alone and report back. Thanks again :)

Definitely hands down go to paint night and enjoy it! And maybe post a pic of what you paint I want to see lol.
