Back to School plans?

Has anyones district announced their back to school plans yet? we live in NJ, and our district put their plan out yesterday. They are basically going to divide each class in half. Half the class is in-person 2 days, and then half the class is in-person the other 2 days. on the 5th day, everybody is remote learning from home. so basically, the kids will be in school 2 days a week, and doing remote learning at home 3 days a week. They'll eat lunch in the classroom to avoid "mixing" with too many kids in the cafeteria.
In one way its nice because with classrooms only half full, the kids can space out and not have to wear masks all day (only on the bus, walking in, and during certain activities).
BUT for working parents, they still have to find child care for 3 full days a week. so many kids will be a childcare setting 3 days a week, mixing with a whole new group of kids, and then bringing that "mix" to school on the days they're at school. so not really sure how it stops the spread that much. AND i'm not sure how the teachers will be able to assist with the kids who are remote learning, when they are busy teaching the kids who are in person that day (unless maybe they will pre-record some lessons to post on google classroom or whatever.... because i don't think cameras in the classroom for a "live stream" would be an option LOL
I mean im happy this means they won't have to be wearing masks all day at least.... but there really is no good answer- its all crazy! just curious if any LI schools have put out plans yet....

Is that for elementary or your entire district?

Ours put out a survey. Only half the parents answered. I suspect since they didn't know where to find the survey. I assumed it was coming in the mail. Then I happened to see someone post about it on FB.

Anyway. The choices were a/b days. So one week Mon Wed Friday, next week Tuesday Thursday I'm assuming. Full days.

Half days 5 days a week. Morning and afternoon sessions.

Full remote learning.

Most chose the a/b days. I'm annoyed if that's what we go to. That means all day in the mask, and an inconsistent weekly schedule. I prefer the morning or afternoon. No lunch and less time in the mask. They haven't announced what they will officially go with though.

And I thought the governor said masks are required in school, regardless of the social distancing?

I called my district and they were annoyed and just said "we all gotta wait for Cuomo". I asked if there were plans to include the community in re-opening plans, and she flat out said no.

I see Pat-med plan as the poster above mentioned, but i heard that through the grapevine. I know Port Washington was discussing the same options in a few online chats. The Herald reported that Lynbrook has shared their plans which again are very similar if not identical to the aforementioned.

Wow I heard all districts did a survey and we got 3 options they are thinking of.
Doesn’t sound like a very organized district and that would scare me as they should be informing parents of the plan they are submitting to Coumo.

I’m in NJ. Last I spoke with the principal the plans were 2 days remote, 2 days in school or 1 week in school, 1 week remote. They weren’t sure about the masks.

Needless to say I’m not happy but no use in wasting my summer being miserable and obsessing over this half @ss plan they have for our kids education. My plan is to see how this mess unfolds and maybe take him out of school in January if I have to. Atleast that gives me several months to prepare and plan.

I'm in the Triangle area of NC - most school districts are 100% virtual for the first 9 weeks, and they'll reassess after that. You have the option to choose all virtual for the first semester or the whole year. Plan B varies by school district - Wake is 1 week in school and 2 weeks at home (which is insane for working parents), Durham is all high school at home and they spread K-9 through all schools (5 days a week).

We are most likely doing A/B days. I don’t think they will have to wear masks all day as they will be distanced in the classroom.

The only idea that would make me 100% happy is normal school so I will deal with this because I am going to have a breakdown teaching my kids while I work every day.

Back to School plans?

Am I the only one who doesn't think Cuomo will allow buildings to open at all, even hybrid? I just don't see him allowing it.

I though the laid out concrete metrics last week that state where the numbers need to be to open.
So I would assume we go by that.

My district sent out an email today. They are looking at all the elementary kids going back everyday all day and the secondary grades and up doing alternate weeks(.there are too many secondary kids to be able to have them go everyday). With the elementary kids they will take everything out of the classrooms to be able to social distance and have cohorts. Then they need to know how many kids will be taking the bus because they can only have 19 kids in a bus and they have to wear masks. Guess we’ll see when the final plans are laid out.

I did see that, and it gave me so much hope. But, I don't trust him. This morning he was threatening to shut down bars & restaurants across downstate NY because people aren't listening. I can see him coming up with some magical reason as to why school reopening will not work.

I don’t think buildings will be open. I would be surprised if school opens at all in September.

I want my kids to go back to school but, I don't think school will be opening on time for in person learning. Even though we are currently in line with his stated metrics to re-open in person, something is going to stop them from re-opening. I feel though that the announcement not to re-open will happen though after the 8/7 announcement.

I have not heard but district was preparing for 3 options. The good news is Cuomo did say schools may reopen for in person learning if the area is in phase 4 of reopening and stays under a 5% infection rate. So looks good for schools reopening...
