How old is she? I feel that it's not really necessary, especially because she gets paid even when she doesn't
work. I don't this usually happens with babysitters. If I must give her something, I'd probably give her two weeks pay but not the whole month.

I run a small home daycare and yes, what you described is standard. You don't just pay for the child, but rather the SLOT. You have to pay for X amount of hours because she's keeping those hours available for you and not taking in anybody else. In my case, I don't charge though for certain things - like if I'm unavailable (sick or on vacation), holidays, and any time that they need off with 2 weeks notice. I hate charging people while they're on a family vacation or whatev er. So in my case I would not charge that month. However, I'm not sure if I could afford an entire month without pay so I'm not sure if I'd be able to hold the slot for someone. Does she watch other kids too, or just yours? Is it full time or part time? You should probably just ask her. Maybe you guys can work something out.
