Baby's heartbeat on the doppler
How early can you start to hear the baby's heartbeat using a doppler?
Did anyone rent a doppler? When were you able to find the HB yourself?
Also, is there any danger to the baby if you use a doppler, say, once a week or so just for peace of mind?

Re: Baby's heartbeat on the doppler
I think by 12-14 weeks you'll be able to hear it no problem. My friend bough one off eBay for like $40. It's completely safe to use every day!

Re: Baby's heartbeat on the doppler
I'd say 12-14 is a safe bet too thats when I got mine.
It did more harm than good for me bc when I couldn't find the hb I lost my mind so it was hidden on me by DH

Re: Baby's heartbeat on the doppler
I never had a doppler, but when my best friend was preggo she was thinking of getting one and mentioned it to her doctor. He strongly warned against them because he said they are not of the same quality as the ones the doctor uses and can be harmful. I would definitely check with your doctor first before you get one.

My doctor did say not to waste my $ because it is really expensive. But my SIL did give me one that I think she got from motherhood, and I tried it acouple of times but never heard a heartbeat, just a lot of static. I just probably dont know how to use it. My OB was able to hear the baby's heartbeat when I was 15 weeks, but Im sure he could have earlier. 12-15 sounds accurate.

Hmm, that's what DH is concerned about - possible harm to the baby. And besides, I was hoping to be able to hear the HB earlier.

Re: Baby's heartbeat on the doppler
I have one and it was a waste of money. All you hear is static and cannot hear the heartbeat, i'm now 33 weeks and still cant seem to find the heartbeat so I just packed it away because it stresses me out not being able to find the heartbeat but then I go to the doctors and they find it right away.

Re: Baby's heartbeat on the doppler
The ones you can get from Target, etc. are a waste of money because you can't hear anything until the 3rd trimester. At that point, you can just use a stethoscope, or have DH put his ear to your belly, to hear the same thing.
However, I rented a hospital-grade doppler from BabyBeat.com when I was 10 weeks, and I found the heart beat then. It took a good 15 minutes, but I found it. After a few weeks, baby's heart got stronger and I got better at using it, and I'd find the hb in a matter of seconds. It was such a worthwhile investment for me - it really helped to ease my mind in the long 4 weeks between appointments. As long as the technology exists, and it's safe, and I can afford it ($40/month), it made me feel so good to have it and to be able to check up on Baby.
My cousin had bought an Angelsounds Doppler from Amazon.com for her pregnancy and gave it to me after she gave birth, so I returned the rented one and use the Angelsounds every now and then. Hardly ever, since she moves so much every day, but when hasn't moved in a while, I'll give a quick listen.

I saw that one online - it was the digital one, right? They also have one that they rent for $25/month. Are they as good? Is there a reason why you got the digital one?
