baby shower dates and MIL?
Did you (or whoever planned your baby shower) ask your MIL which dates she was available, or did you (they) just choose a date and tell her to be there?
Are you "supposed" to ask MIL?
I don't remember what we did for my bridal shower

My MIL booked my shower. She gave me an option of dates. Originally, I was going to book it myself, my game plan was to ask her about her availability.
So yes, I would ask her.

I asked my mom and sister to keep my MIL in the loop with planning, she doesn't have any girls & this is her first grandchild. My mom n sister found out which dates were available for the place they wanted & confirmed it was good for me & her before booking.

My Mom and MIL are planning it. We cleared it with the VIPs. (Mom, MIL, Me, my sister). I'd keep her in the loop since I'm sure she wouldn't want to miss it. Maybe terr her a few dates you are looking at to be sure first.

We're having our shower at my in-laws house (dh's dad &stepmom) so we chose a date that worked for them, but we didn't ask DHs mom. We did give her plenty of notice though.
Edited because I saw the posts above. MIL is not contributing to the cost or planning of the shower which is part of why we didn't ask her about the date first. If she was involved in the planning I'm sure we would have asked her to make sure that date was good for her.

I would let her know the dates you are looking at just in cse she has something you don't know about.

YES, she would have been greatly offended if I didn't check with her first.
Glad I did because she is going on vacation for 2 weeks and I would have picked it for when she was gone without knowing.

My MIL lives pretty far away and hates coming to NY and I doubt she would come anyway so I will tell my mom not to bother checking with her. She didn't come to my bridal shower even after we coordinated a date with her for that so I'm not going to make everyone crazy trying to come up with something that works for her in case she pulls the same cr@p again.

wow, that's ballsy of her! 
Thanks everyone! i'll prob just tell her the date way in advance - i don't think i can switch it since we're coordinating dates with much more important people (my aunt who will be here from Israel)

My mother in law is throwing my shower...so it was more like we had to run the date by my mom, but we did, bc she needed to make arrangements to come to NY (she is in TN)

I am not involved in the planning of my shower, but I am positive my mom would have talked to MIL about dates as a courtesy.

MIL is very involved with our pregnancy so we asked if she would be available on the date of the shower. We did give her like 5 months notice LOL
