Re: baby not pooping?
My Dr said DS doesn't go for 4+ days, use an infant glycerine suppository.
For us, it was the ONLY thing that worked "immediately"
We did (and still do) use prune juice, but it took almst 2 weeks to kick in. Thermometer, didn't work. Warm compress on his tushie hole, didn't work. A warmly dampened q-tip, didn't work.
GL!!

When my ds had that problem my ped recommended giving him straight apple juice. It worked for us..

Re: baby not pooping?
My breastfeeding book says it's not uncommon for older breastfed babies to go a week without a bowel movement.

2 weeks?! really?? Prune juice has always always worked the same day for DD - - we have used it many times this first year and always had luck with it.

Re: baby not pooping?
You could do a supposatory. They are not difficult and not at all uncomfortable for baby.
Good luck

Re: baby not pooping?
is that what the dr told you to do - 1 tablespoon?
I was told 1oz juice to 1 oz water when DD was a month old.....2 oz to 2 oz when she was about 3 mths....now at 1 yr we do a whole bottle - 4 oz and 4 oz.
I wouldnt think just a tablespoon would do it? But what the heck do I know. LOL

Any drug store. In the baby isle. They are in a box, I think it was white and blue. I got it from Duane Reade.

You might want to try a little more juice before resorting to the suppository. I'd try 1 ounce.
I've had to use the suppositories for my DD in the past as well. They sell them in all pharmacies. You'd need the infant/ child one's. It really doesn't take a full suppository to get things moving. My ped recommended taking a knife and cutting the suppository lengthwise. It was always effective. Be prepared after (if you do the suppository) for a lot of poop. My DD used to poop right out of the diaper within minutes. I used to make sure I had the "crappiest" clothes on her when I did a suppository!

Re: baby not pooping?
I would use the glycerine suppository. Being he is still little like my DS I usually break it in 1/2. You have to hold his little cheecks closed though. My DS always pushes it out.

Re: baby not pooping?
I would definately try to the juice again first - my ped doesnt recommend the supository - she says it is very harsh on them. Id do 1 oz or even 1.5 oz of juice. hope it works!! GL!

Re: baby not pooping?
Call your pediatrician...4 days is too long. He may need a suppository, but you should consultyour doc first.

Re: baby not pooping?
Four days wasn't too long for my ebf baby. My doctor told me to leave her alone unless she seemed uncomfortable, which she didn't. She never lasted much longer than that.
