Baby hates hypoallergenic formula..any tips?
DD is 4 months old and has been breastfed thus far. A few weeks ago, we tried giving her formula since I'm going back to work soon and am worried that I won't be able to pump enough. She threw it up. Her pediatrician said she must be allergic to the formula and to try Similac Alimentum. She won't eat the Alimentum..takes the bottle for a minute and then refuses it. Her pediatrician said to keep offering a bottle.
We tried mixing it with breastmilk and that didn't work. Any tips on how to get her to take it? Has anyone had this experience before?

How many times did you try the regular formula?

Just that one time a few weeks ago. We fed her 2 oz and she threw up 3 times several hours later.

Idk if I would switch to that after only one time
I would keep trying a little at a time and if it keeps happening than try a diff brand

I'm not trying to sound mean, but I would find another ped. Trying a formula once and the baby throwing up several hours later is not a reason to switch formula. And certainly not straight to alimentum.
Alimentum is generally for a milk protein allergy. Have you been consuming dairy while breastfeeding? If so, I highly doubt your DD has a milk protein allergy.
My DD was on alimentum. She got there after trying multiple formulas and going to a GI where they tested her stool. Same story with pretty much everyone I know whose been on ailmentum.
Sorry, I don't mean to sound so harsh, but I've never heard of anything like this. I would hate for you to be going through all this when it turns out your DD would be fine on regular formula and you're being tortured for no reason!

I agree that going to alimentum was a big leap. Dd1 had a severe milk allergy that required prescription formula, and dd2 took a long while before we found something for her, but it was not a milk allergy. The first scenario was a long process and heart wrenching. Not exactly just puking. Coming from both situations, there is a big difference between having the allergy and not, if your D.C. did indeed have an allergy, you'd be seeing symptoms with your milk as well (unless you never ingested dairy, whey, or casein while breastfeeding).
We had great success with dd2 on enfamil gentleease. And she threw up with powder - we had to use ready to feed until she was a year. Definitely more things should be tried than assumption it's an allergy.

Re: Baby hates hypoallergenic formula..any tips?
maybe try a regular formula, or even a spit up formula if that is the problem too. similac makes a gentle formula (like enfamil gentle ease) and there is similac spit up and enfamil AR that has cereal mixed in the formula so its easier for the baby to keep down.
i agree that i feel like a jump to alimentum may be a bit drastic. it doesn't seem like it is a milk allergy especially if you have been having dairy and DC hasn't had a reaction to your milk.
