Baby Carriers - Are the pricier ones better?
What's the difference between the baby carriers that are over $100 and something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Infantino-Swift-Classic-Carrier-Black/dp/B003I867US/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358956886&sr=8-1&keywords=infantino+baby+carrier
Is it really worth the splurge for the nicer ones? Didn't use one with DD but figured I'll need both hands available for my 2.5 year old when DS is born.
If it's worth it for the more expensive ones, any recommendations?

Baby Carriers - Are the pricier ones better?
I would look closely at the reviews to see if you think it would work for you. There's not much to lose with that price though!
Personally, I had a fairly pricey bjorn and found it uncomfortable for long periods even when DD was small. I also didn't like what I read about carriers like the bjorn and the one you posted that don't support the baby's legs well. If I'd read that in advance I would have gone for the pricier ergo. I did get a moby for about $40 and have been very happy with it. DD is 9 months now and I still find it very comfortable. The wrapping takes a little practice but gets easier with time and youtube was definitely helpful.

The Ergo is awesome. Doesn't pull or dig into your shoulders like the Bjorn or Snugli do. Wraps are nice but can have a learning curve
Check out thebabywearer.com they have a TON of info on carriers.

Re: Baby Carriers - Are the pricier ones better?
I have an ergo and a bejorn. I bough the bejorn on craigs list and then after bought the ergo, because I wanted something that I could use on my back so I could carry both the twins. The ergo is FAR superior to the bejorn.
For me it is totally worth it!!

I have an Ergo and Bjorn. I love the bjorn when they were little and as they got older and heavier, the ERGO was great on my back.

I hated the Bjorn, it was so hard on my back and shoulders. Loved the Ergo.

Re: Baby Carriers - Are the pricier ones better?
DD1 hated the Bjorn, and I ultimately sold it. I treated myself to an Ergo this time and use it every day. (DD2 is actually napping on me now). I also have a Baby Ktan sling and love it, and it was $55. Boba is another good brand. Check out FrogMama.com for other similar carriers.
Whatever carrier you buy should be researched. The baby shouldn't look like they're dangling from their crotch (like with the Bjorn or the carrier you posted). Long-term use can affect how their hips develop. The carrier should make a seat for the baby or should wrap them securely.

I have a Baby K'tan sling and Beco Gemini (which is just like the Ergo but you can wear baby facing front or back). Pricey but really quality construction.

Re: Baby Carriers - Are the pricier ones better?
I think it depends on your own comfort and preferences. Personally I tried a sling, moby wrap and then found an ergo on sale at nordstrom (of all places) and fell in love. My husband tried the moby, ergo and now uses a used Jeep brand carrier I picked up for $5.
For me, I feel comfortable with the Ergo for their safety, though my DD prefers the inside facing positioning more than my DS who digs the Jeep carrier and facing outwards.
For $15, it wouldn't be the worst idea to try it out to avoid the higher price tag of the other carriers, especially if you find out you love it.

I bought the least expensive bjorn. I'm sure you can get someone to lend you one, DS hated it. DD loved it so much, but my back was really hurting after she was 3 months. I bought the ergo after some research.
At over one year old, with a baby who is now over 23 lbs (chubby is an undertstatement), I've been super happy with the ergo. It's comfy, she loves it and I can carry her for hours (and do).

I got the Boba 3G and love it. It goes for $130 I believe, but worth every penny. Im still wearing DS who is 17 mos and 25 lb with total comfort. Mostly on my back.

I forgot to add... I had the Bjorn and it was OK, it got the job done and DS liked it, but it killed my back. And when DS was small we loved the wraps (Moby and sleepy). But the Boba is 7-45 lbs.

I just got my Beco Gemini and can't wait to try it out! I've heard great things about them. I sure hope it's good for the $$$ or DH won't let me hear the end of it!

I have an Infantino (not sure which model, I got it on sale back in 2009) and a Moby wrap. I love both of them! I don't use it a lot, but the Infantino that I have is great - it's very comfy & I have a big boy lol

Just wanted to share that Target has a great deal on the ergo online. It's $103 and then you get a $20 gift card, plus of course the 5% off if you have a red card. I'm sooo tempted!
