Baby #2, Nursery and Redecorating ... Is it terrible
that I have very little desire to create a whole new nursery?
Here is the general plan:
Currently Jake has the smallest bedroom in the house. We want to move him into the spare bedroom (much bigger) and redecorate that for him and give the baby his room.
But... I don't feel like redecorating his room for the new baby! It seems like such a CHORE to me right now. We just completed lots of renovations in the house...I am sick of picking out colors, and lighting, and window treatments etc etc. I know this most women's dream come true but I am SO not in the mood.
It's like I have energy to do it one more time - Jake's new room, and that's it. To do both rooms just seems so overwhelming right now.
Ugh...am I just being lazy?
Right now Jake's room is an ocean theme. Somewhat neutral, I suppose. The walls are blue and green (soft yet tropical blue and green) with a fish themed border... neutral color wood furniture and wood floors. Do you think I can get away with just changing the bedding and window treatments?
I painted that entire room myself when I was like 11 months pregnant with Jake and... I still like it!
To make things more difficult...we haven't decided if we are finding out what we are having yet. I'm leaning toward not finding out...
I think maybe if I knew we were having a girl, I'd be more psyched about decorating. But then again... if I knew we were having a boy, I can totally get away with keeping Jake's old room the same, right?
Should I just wait to see if that "nesting" instinct kicks in? (FYI: it never really happened last time )

not lazy at all. Since DS and this baby will be less than 2 yrs apart I am thinking of one "nursery" and then the other room for a playroom until they get a little older.
ETA: Gs room is gender neutral

I feel you. I'm not preggo yet, but I've given thought to this as well. I know that the new baby will wind up in our office, which is smaller than DS's room, so the new baby will definitely not be getting the nice furniture-for-life set that DS has. With DS everything had to be perfect and done a certain way, now I'm like "well let's just get a crib from Ikea and then when that baby gets a little older we'll buy a small bedroom set."

If you like the way the nursery is.. then why should you have to redo it? I say leave it and do your ds new room.. things get exspensive. Your first baby is still very soo little so not like the nursery was used that long.

Re: Baby #2, Nursery and Redecorating ... Is it terrible
The only reason we have to re do a room is because this baby is a girl. Otherwise I would have just left it. We decided to keep Andrew in his room even though it is smaller because to re do his room and then the new room it would take me forever and with the Holidays coming up no thanks
We are going to get new carpet and paint the baby's room and we already have all the furniture.

Re: Baby #2, Nursery and Redecorating ... Is it terrible
We didn't find out gender with DD, so the nursery is neutral. I definitley didn't want the expense and craziness of doing a big girl room for her and a nursery for the new baby at the same time, so DD will be "graduating" to the next room and this baby will just move into the nursery as is. That was definitely my plan from the beginning, and now I am really glad! We definitely don't have the time (or the money ) to do two rooms at once.
Any future kids will use the same nursery too

I'll fess up....
Scone, while we knew he was a boy from the start, has exceptionally neutral nusery stuff.
I have ZERO intentions to redo everything for a new baby! I intend to at best get a new batch of linens and some clothes....
that's it!

We moved Sarah to a new room and kept the nursery the same for Andy. We'd done it gender neutral on purpose.
When he moves to a big boy bed I'll redo the whole room.

Re: Baby #2, Nursery and Redecorating ... Is it terrible
i feel your pain, i have to do THREE rooms...
i am giving my DS the master bedroom (can you imagine) because hes gonna be 10, and hes losing his playroom when the baby comes, and i want him to have lotsa room for his friends, so theyre not in the living room while my boob is in the babys mouth all weekend lol
so THAT room has to be done...then we are moving into the middle room (which is very decently sized thank goodness) so i have to redo that one...and the is going in my sons room which is now ALL BLUE.. i picked out paint for all 3, now im just sittin here waiting for the paint fairy to come and rescue me!

Joey's nursery is stars/moons, etc., it's from Pottery Barn. We got it when we found out we were having a boy, but I guess it could be gender neutral. If this baby is a girl, I confess, I will probably end up just giving her a completely new room, but only because I have my heart set on a girls room from Pottery Barn.

Re: Baby #2, Nursery and Redecorating ... Is it terrible
Wasn't that really the point of nurseries in Victorian times anyway? That the nursery was a room for the baby, decorated for a baby, with baby's toys, etc and when the children got older they were moved into their real bedrooms? Think Wendy in Peter Pan!
Sounds like an ideal plan to me! In fact when we finally do have a child, whether or not we know the gender, we'll have a neutral nursery.

We di dthe same thing. DD was moved into the spare room much bigger and we redid that room. I dont plan on changing a thing for DC I am preggo with right now except clean it form top to bottom. We didnt find out what we were having with DD so its all primary colors so gender neutral. I love the nursery and wouldnt want to change it!

THANK you!!! I feel so much better about this now!!
If it's a girl I will get some girlie bedding, and maybe add a few things here and there but otherwise it's staying the way it is!!

Re: Baby #2, Nursery and Redecorating ... Is it terrible
I think it's fine to leave it as is. The theme is definitely gender neutral so why redo it? If necessary you can put a few girly touches in there. Otherwise, leave it!
