babies w/reflux-a few questions

My ds has been spitting up the past few days which he has never done before-very rarely anyway...And both yesterday and today the spitup shot out of his mouth so i'm thinking he has reflux now.
Does that sound like reflux?
Why would it just develop now if he's been on the same formula for 3 months?
How do you make sure the baby is okay at night sleeping and that they dont spitup and choke on it??? I'm terrified to lay him down to sleep now!
When he spitup before he was silent, he just happened to be on his changing table so i was able to pick him up right away!

Do you put him down right after feedings? My doc always suggested , at the start, to make sure to hold him upright for 30 minutes after feeding. JAG had it a bit severe so he ended up sleeping the first few months of his life in his motion glider (so he was always a bit upright to hold his food in).

Could he have a virus? Is it curdled or coming up right after feedings?

it doesn't even come up right away...it came up maybe 2 hours after his feedings! And i dont lay him down right away

oh...and no, it doesn't look curdled...it looks the way it looked going in!

he doesn't spit up a ton...when it shot out of his mouth it was maybe 1/2 an ounce, so not really a ton, but he has never really spit up before at all!
His last bottle was around 7:30, then around 9 he spit up a little on his changing table, he was laying there and it kinda dripped all out of the side of his mouth...
then he was smiling and i started reading to him and then more shot out of his mouth.

He could have had excess air in his belly that caused it. I wouldn't worry. Sounds normal to me

My DS's reflux suddenly got alot worse around 3.5 months for no explainable reason. This shocked me b/c I always heard it was supposed to get better but the dr. said this sometimes happens because of a few reasons - one being that they are drinking an increased amount of liquid and another being that even if they were refluxing b/f and not spitting up the esophagas may be more irritated now making it worse. We always keep DS elevated for 30 minutes after eating and I try to only have him sleep on his side (although sometimes he does roll to his back) so that the spit up will just roll out but, even though DS is a BIG spitter upper I can count the number of times he has spit up while sleeping on one hand. thank you all for your replies... I did just start giving him a little more to eat-instead of 5 ounces i increased it to almost 6...even though he drinks it down, maybe his tummy isn't ready for that much?
i just made new bottles for tomorrow at about 5.5 ounces, so maybe i can increase it slowly.

these are reflux symptoms, My son does not have alll of them but he def does have it--the other baby outgrew it to the most part.
They were not diagnosed until around your sons age---I had a dd with colic and assumed it was that again..
if you think it can be there is a amazing formula that u will see results within 24-72 hours..fmm me if u want

he gets hiccups every day-since birth and had them every day in my belly too..
just recently he makes feeding difficult, he hits the bottle away when feeding him, but i think its cuz he likes to grab things, cuz he'll take the bottle right back in his mouth.
he does have some wet burps
and i think thats it out of the symptoms you listed!
he did suddenly cry the other day and i think its because he was about to spit up and it went back down his throat

I have come to realize....sometimes wih reflux its a good day and sometimes its not--its not constant....
but***I have to tell you allthough not 100% but my sons got 90% better on Neocate formula----it needs a doctors script and depends on your insurance....
do u know off hand if your insurance covers formula? neocate is mad expensive.
Sometimes Max is ok---sometimes he wakes screaming---I can hear him burp and he vomits allllllllllllll over....
what made me think yours might have it is because after 2 hours that vomit should be curdled---not look the same as it went down.
If you listen...when it happens its almost like they cannot swallow it and it has no choice but to come up.
They also eat smaller meals---they cannot eat alot...
but on a good note==is is only 1 pound lighter then Jake and he was 1 pound lighter in the hospital when he left,...they won't starve.

lets see Reese had reflux but from birth and she didn't projectile spit up. But i did hear that coulld happen. Sydney when she was about 4 months old started to spit up so i took her to a Gastro Doc and i was told that i was overfeeding her. I wasn't spacing the bottle out long enough and when Syd would cry i would assume she was hungry so i would feed her and it would soothe her for a minute but then she would projectile and scream. So i began to space out her feeding every 4 hours and i added cereal and fruit for her breakfast and she was like a different kid..she stopped being fussy. In your case maybe examine your feeding schedule and then take your DC to a Gastro Doc...good luck! Fm if you need additional information

i think maybe we overfed him...i should stick with the bottle i give him and then just give him a pacifier if he's still looking for something.
