One of my best friends teaches children with autism. I give her (& anyone else who works with people who have autism) a ton of credit!
I'm a little confused about why we should call Celina? Maybe I missed something?

PS - New neighbors on my block came over and introduced themselves. Their oldest son has Autism, and I told them I work with kids with Autism. The mother's eyes lit up, and she instantly felt comfortable with me. It was very touching when she thanked me for working with these special kids, and it made me feel proud to be a Special Ed. Teacher.
Her name is Celina - (631)905-5896.
She's awesome!!!
Give her a ring and tell her Theresa recommended her.
Good luck!!!

I just noticed this. Sorry - it wasn't some odd plug or anything! I have another thread listing my cleaning person's info, and somehow I think I copied and pasted it on here. Very odd!!!

I am also a teacher for children with autism, as well as a home ABA therapist/supervisor. I would not trade my jobs in for anything else in the world! I absolutely love what I do and cannot even describe in words how it has impacted my life!!

Re: Autism - poll
At my current position/old job, I did EI and CPSE evaluations, mainly for children who are on the autistic spectrum. I have learned so much about the fine intricacies of diagnosis and the wide range of the children's presentations.
At my new job, I am a school psychologist and I provide counseling/play therapy/behavioral intervention for preschool children in a special education setting. Several children on my caseload have autism.
I am hoping to continue and expand my work with children with autism as I go further in my career.

My father is a retired Special Ed teacher and used to do summer work and special olympic work with children with downs and children with autism. It's amazing to see how he is able to interact with all children so effortlessly. My daughter is so lucky to have him as her grandfather.

Re: Autism - poll
Sometimes I wonder if my son (8) is on the spectrum. He's never formally been diagnosed with anything other than ADHD. When he went through EI when he was 3, they did mention PDD, but nothing ever came of it. He does the hand flapping sometimes when he gets excited, covers his ears for loud noises, is a bit socially immature, loves puzzles, has a hard time with his reading and has trouble staying on task. He never smiled as a baby and didn't start speaking until he got speech therapy when he was 2.5.
I did look into a place that would do a full evaluation on him, but they don't take insurance and the cost was a ton. I figure a diagnosis wouldn't really make a difference in the services he currently receives through the district though, so I never pursued it.
