At what point do I consider counseling?
My son is 4 and 3/4. Sometimes I can not believe the audacity he has to say some of things he says. At times, he can be so fresh, moody, bossy, and bratty. I fear that my husband and I are raising a spoiled brat and I really want to help him change is behavior. I have a BA in psychology and and MA in education and often I have no idea how to respond to him. Of course I try time-outs, taking things away, positive reinforcement, explaining, etc. He is often so angry and irrational. Not sure how much of his behavior is typical behavior testing his boundaries, saying things for shock value, etc. But at this point I'd like to know what my options are. Are there therapists who specialize working with young children? Is it silly that I want professional help? i just want my son to be a happy, healthy, well adjusted boy. Any referrals for a therapist/social worker or something like that preferable in Nassau would be appreciated.

If you think it's more than just an extension of trouble-terrible 2s/3s, then I would not wait. Is he ok in school or are they seeing the same thing? You can try to go through CPSE, but the transition to CSE is fast approaching. FM me if you need more specifics or help. I am a school psychologist. GL!
