at this risk of sounding ungrateful...

Someone in my immediate family told me today that they bought me something for the baby but not the one I chose on my registry, a different brand and model...I guess insinuating that I should take the one I registered for off of my registry... because I might get two...

Well, I dont want to take the one I registered for off...I registered for a specific one because of certain features that we wanted and that it matches everything else I am doing....

So, when I get the item, I am just going to see if there is a local store that sells it and try to return it...is that terrible? I know the person will eventually find out...but there are several reasons we chose the one we did...

is that terrible of me? how would you handle this situation?

Re: at this risk of sounding ungrateful...

So weird!! That is the point of a registry!

For ME since i am pretty comfortable saying whatever to immediate fam. members i would just say "I really really appreciate what you bought, I just have a particular brand on there because it matches all the other stuff and i don't want you thinking i don't like what you bought..."

OR if you feel weird approaching it that way, i would leave what you registered for up there...and use both. Is it something that you could use two of? (for example, a pack n play can be used at diff. places...leave one at the in laws the other at your house etc..).

Good luck. Sorry you're in that awkward position!!

I don't think it's ungrateful at all. I agree that it's the whole point of registry. Of course people don't have to buy off of it but I registered for certain items for a reason after lots of research. I definitely agree with you.

Re: at this risk of sounding ungrateful...

I would feel the exact same way, but I have no idea how I'd handle it.

If I really had no use for the "wrong" one I would either try to return it myself or maybe sell it if I couldn't return it.

Re: at this risk of sounding ungrateful...

I'd probably just keep it and take the other off my registry. A PnP isn't something that needs to match everything else. It's not like you're dragging it to the park next to the stroller or setting it up in the kitchen next to a high chair. But, if it doesn't have a bassinet feature, though, I'd return it because that's extremely useful. The newborn napper is a complete waste. The diaper changing table is OK, but you can also change the baby in the bassinet, and then you don't have to keep removing the changing table every time you want to put the baby in it.

I wish I'd gotten a way more basic PnP. I actually feel really bad I had the more expensive one on my registry -- I'm sure I could've used the $50 more it cost than a basic one for a lot of other more useful things.

That being said, if you really don't want it, just return it. If you can't, you can try to sell it on craig's list or regift it or even donate it. I'm sure the Ronald McDonald House would love to get a brand new PnP! If the gift giver was really trying to be thoughtful and truly cared about getting you a gift you wanted and could use, they would've spoken to YOU about it before just buying something random, especially since you have a registry in place already, not told another family member to tell you to take the one you have on your registry off. The whole thing is kinda weird.

Re: at this risk of sounding ungrateful...

Ugh, here's what I'd do, take it off the registry, and then EXCHANGE IT.

That happened to me with pots and pans, I wanted a specific color and clear covers, someone got me really ugly ones and then, a friend as a joke bought me the ones I wanted.

The woman then had the nerve to tell me I should keep both. Chat Icon

I exchanged it. It's annoying when people try to do that. Chat Icon

Could you add that one to your registry so it is easier to return? I think I might do that and "play dumb" as to why it was not taken off my registry when purchased.

i don't think you are being ungrateful...i think it's very odd that if you are registered that someone would choose a different pack and play for you Chat Icon

I think it is fine for you to return it for the one you want. That is the point of having a registry...some people do not like to shop from a registry, and that is fine, but they shouldn't be surprised if their gift then gets returned.

I never understand people like that, I like to get gifts that I KNOW the person wants...if they register for it, they obviously want it....Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: at this risk of sounding ungrateful...

return it.

idk why some people do this. but in the case of things like furniture and the larger items.... you picked what you picked for a reason.

I mean if they want to get you something extra that's not on the registry... then OK fine. But to buy a totally different item of the same kind that's on your registry is a bit odd. Maybe they did it bc it was on sale and wanted to save money??

I would try to return it if it wasn't the one I wanted.
