At Cornell today

I was in the waiting room at about 7:15 and there was a couple there with a little boy (baby).

Now I'm fine with bringing your kids to the place but what happened next shocked me.

The man took the baby out of the carriage and flung him around lifting him high in the air, cooing, talking baby talk with him and went all around the waiting room doing this. Basically playing with him as he would anywhere else but it was so overly dramatic to the point of distraction.

Completely and utterly clueless and/or heartless.

Every woman in the room was starting at him with a dead look on their faces. It took all I could muster up not to tell him off and walk out of there.

I was called for my blood draw and the tech told me that when they come in they get them out of the waiting room asap as not to upset the others.

Nobody has spoken to these people. I'm considering saying something to my doctor.

They are going for their second kid and I understand that not everyone can find someone to watch the baby. The baby was also in his feet pajamas and was very sleepy and disoriented.

If I see it again, I will certainly say something.

If they were both there then at the very least, the dad could have walked the kid around outside or in the hallways until they got called in.
I would def. say something to your doctor and/or office manager. That behavior in that setting is uncalled for.

I think I saw the same couple there. Chat Icon The husband was in a track suit (this was about 2 weeks ago) and had a bit of gray hair. They come with their stroller and like 3 bags of baby stuff. They sit right in the middle of the waiting room, as opposed to off to the side like other couples with kids. The husband walks ALL around the room baby talking with his kid. They sat next to me once and I promptly moved. I doubt they noticed.Chat Icon

Could be. Was he really tall? Today he looked like he was in a suit with a wool coat over it. Yes, the came accessorized in full baby regalia.

The kid was cute and I tried to look past the situation but I found it totally rude. Yeah, your kid is cute..yeah we want one but you doing that is not helpful. I was in such a mood too..I really was this close..

OMG!!! I think I know who you are talking about... when the wife holds the baby near the elevator or something.. he starts clapping loudly to get the babies attention... it was super uncomfortable. I actually commented to DH about it as soon as I got home...

Re: At Cornell today

I wrote this whole thing, then hit post and realized I wasn't connected to the internet anymore....So, I will try to remember what I originally said:

I think it's sad that people who have previously gone through the heartache of IF "forget" where they came from. It was extreamley rude, inconsiderate and totally non-compassionate of that man to carry on the way he did. If I were his wife, I would have been utterly embarrassed and disgusted by his behavior.

It's no huge secret we are trying for #2. We make EVERY effort to not have to bring DD in with us on the occassions we both need to be at the RE's office. If it's a morning I have to be there for monitoring, DH will adjust his morning so he can stay home with DD while I go. Morning monitoring is so early anyway, it's not really an issue for him to stay home with her. If for whatever reason we BOTH need to be there, or he cannot be home with her, my RE's office is very accomodating by allowing me to come in at an "off" hour if necessary. If we are blessed to get pregnant with #2, we've already made arrangements for childcare for DD so DH can be present for Sonos. I cannot bring myself to bring DD with me to appointments. It's not fair to others in the waiting room, regardless if they are okay with it or not.

I'm sorry you had to witness such a douche-bag.... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: At Cornell today

I think the behavior is awful. I do understand needing to bring a child with you for some appointments. But to flaunt it in such a hurtful manner is just unthinkable.
I do think the office should speak with this family as to avoid this issue in the future.

The flaunting is really out of control! There is usually a child in the waiting every time I go there for appointments, but all the kids are usually at the other end of the waiting room or the parents just sit there and wait like everyone else. NO ONE walks around the entire room repeatedly... especially since this baby wasn't even crying.Chat Icon If I see them there on my last day I will definitely say something (on my way out)!

Re: At Cornell today

My RE has a sign in the waiting room that says plainly "PLEASE make child care arrangements before your appointment"

Thats just rude IMO, if you have to bring a child, then bring him/her, but do so quietly

Re: At Cornell today

I totally agree with everyone. Not everyone can get someone to watch the kid but to flaunt it around the waiting room was just obscene.

Does he think that him doing that inspires us? As if we have control over it.

Re: At Cornell today

There was a woman one morning at my REs office who had to bring her DD, she was probably around 2. The woman did EVERYTHING in her power to keep her daughter quiet. She had books, crayons, you name it. You could tell that she did NOT want to bring her, but probably had no other option.

No one minded at all, probably because they were so quiet and the little girl so well behaved.

I think in your situation, you just have a completely insensitive couple.
