at 10 days old my DS has clicking in hips Please help!

We took ds to his well visit at his peditrician at 3 days old and went again a week later to make sure his jaundice was getting better.
when he was born the drs did several tests to check his legs, hips etc and he was perfect. At his first peditrician visit all went great too.
2 days ago we went back to the peditrician and the dr felt some popping/clicking in his right hip. Hes sending ds for an ultrasound when hes 6 weeks old to rule out hip dysplasia. The dr said regardless if it comes back as hip dysplasia (which he said he doubts but wants to be 100% certian) its an easy quick fix - few weeks in a leg swing and its completly harmless.
Of course i ask if it was something i did and the ped said nope not at all but here i am worrying sick about my little boy thinking he has hip dysplasia.

Has anyone gone thru this or know anything about it?

You didnt do anything at all....Chat Icon

It is something that happens in utero for one reason or another...

While Im sure he's fine even if he is found to have hip dysplasia it's an easy fix...

No worries mama...he's gorgeous and perfect and has wonderful parents Chat Icon

Re: at 10 days old my DS has clicking in hips Please help!

I'm going through it right now. DD was born breech and was breech from 25 weeks till 39 weeks. She had hip displasia in both hips. Wore the brace for 2 weeks her left hip got better. Wore the brace for 6 more weeks didn't correct the right. Now she's in a new brace for 4 more weeks. If it doesn't get better by Nov 4th she will need surgery. Not saying you DC would need surgery but DD's hip is bad. Its because she was breech for so long. if it comes down to the brace, it sucks for a little but rather do it now then when they are older and remember. It makes things harder for a few weeks. Def get it check early cause my ortho said waiting to correct it can make it worse because of scar tissue forming and blocking the hip to fit in the socket. FM me with any question I'm more then willing to help. If you look at my post last week I posted about my DD and her new brace. I'll be praying your DC doesn't have this!! I've been dealing with this since DD was a week old and she's now 10weeks.

Thank you so much. I am definitely going to get it checked out as soon as he turns 6 weeks old - the ped told me not to go sooner bc th results will be skewed. The ped did ask me if he was breech - but he wasnt. Im praying he doesnt have it but if he does i will do everything i possibly can to avoid surgery (the ped discussed surgery if its not corrected with the brace.
Praying this brace works for ur dd Chat Icon Chat Icon

Well I *had* hip displasia as a baby. Back then, it was the same as what your doctor said- a few weeks (then it was months) in a sling. I never had any problems and only realized it when I saw pictures of me with the sling on when I was younger. Never had any trouble walking.

When DD was born, we had her tested also- 6 weeks with an ultra sound. It was nothing. She didn't even cry.

DD was breech and had mild hip dysplasia. She wore a pavlic harness for 8 weeks and all better!! It's not a big deal at all and it certainly isn't anything you did. I blamed DD for her hip dysplasia since she didn't want to face the right direction! Chat Icon
