Asthmatics?

Are there any concerns about inhalers such as symbicort while you are TTC or pregnant. I was reading my inhaler's package insert and it said that the benefit of using has to outweigh the risks. Just wanted to know if anyone's doctor told them not to use it if TTC.

Also, my doctor gave me Prednisone for my bronchitis (along with my asthma), how long after being on such a drug should you wait before TTC? My doctor didn't seem to concerned that we want to TTC again in the next few months. I'll only be on the Prednisone for a few days. Just curious. I haven't had asthma since I was a kid - I grew out of it and now I have the adult onset version. It's not severe, but with the bronchitis I've been very uncomfortable.

Re: Asthmatics?

I'm an asthmatic. I've been on Advair and albuterol as needed. I went over all my medications with my primary care doctor and Midwife before TTC. Even though the Advair is a class C drug, it is more important that I maintain my asthmas and try to avoid the albuterol as much as possible.

I would run the medication you are on for your asthmas by either your OB or midwife ans see what they say. THey tend to have a better grasp of what medications to steer clear from during pregnancy and TTC than most general health care practitioners.

Based on what my doc told me, it doesn't really matter when you're ttc...I take Singulair, Asmanex daily inhaler, Zyrtec, Combivent emergency inhaler, & Xopenex when I nebulize. When I got pg earlier this year I called my asthma doc & asked her about it & she told me the same thing - the benefits of my being able to breathe & supply the baby with o2 far outweighed any potential danger from taking the meds. The only thing she changed was my Asmanex - she gave me something that was a Class B med for that just because she felt that it would still be effective for the 9 months. She also told me to try to hold off of the Combivent (albuterol mix) as much as I could, but that I should use it when I absolutely needed it. After I lost the baby (not releated at all) she switched me back to Asmanex again while I'm ttc. I hope that helps. Feel better! Chat Icon

I agree on all counts.

Just last week I spoke with my GYN.
My asthma is allergy related. He ok'd my Advair & Nasonex, but said to avoid taking Allegra.
