Arguments over Guardianship of DC
DH and I have been arguing over who should be the guardians of DD if something were to happen to us. He would like his sister which I am against for several reasons (she is not really involved in dd life, doesn't really promote education with her own kids and makes poor financial decisions.
I would like either my sister or brother/sister-in-law. My family is so involved in dd life--someone from my family sees her every week. It would be an easier transition for her to go to someone familiar rather than strangers. Plus, financially they are better off/make better choices and my sil is a teacher and would promote her education which is important to me. DH is against this since my brother is a cop. We are both at a standstill. Anybody else have this problem and, if so, what did you do??

Re: Arguments over Guardianship of DC
oh boy, sounds similar in my home, although we haven't gotten embroiled in it yet.
DH keeps bringing his sister up when we discuss it too. Sadly, her DH passed away suddenly last year, and she has a 3 year old son. I honestly think it's too much for her to take on another child. She's a single mother, she bought a 2 bedroom house, and she relies heavily on her mother, which is fine for her, but I would rather place my child with a family who has a more stable life. Obviously all circumstances change, but why put your child with someone who isn't the best fit from the start?
My friend told me that her sister was advised, when writing her will, to place the children with the family that would give herchildren as similar a life as they would have received if the parents were still alive. My DH has to come to terms with the fact that it is not his sister, no offense, but it's just not.
Good Luck, it's very tough!

Re: Arguments over Guardianship of DC
We have gone through this as well since my son was born..Now hes 4 1/2 and my dd is 1 and we have another on the way so we really started talking about it again..Now that it has been a few years since we had DS we have seen who is in his life and who is around for all of us..I actually have decided to go with who he wanted originally which is his mom and his new step dad who is a cop..I didnt want his mom originally because I felt like she was just starting her life over.. She just got remarried to a 34 yr ..And my DH is 28..But since it seems like My MIL has decided not to have anymore kids she is 48 and my FIL wants children and is really good with them..They are the right choice..They are great with my kids and my DD hates everyone but loves my FIL.
I dont know why your DH has a problem picking a cop if its because of the risk of there job anyone can get hurt or killed in any field.. Ive wanted to be a police officer since I was 2 and that hasnt changed Im waiting till after I have this baby and know where we are living to apply for a police dept..And Im a mom with 3 kids.. I think life has risks no matter what. If you feel that these are the best people to take care of your child then I say wait a little while and make a really good case but dont settle for someone you dont feel completely comfortable with..I hope this helps..
