Are you Accident Prone?
Whenever the discussion of "klutzi-ness" comes up, I always feel I have everyone beat....
About a year ago, I was crossing the street with a co-worker, and fell in the middle of Broadway at Wall St....I fell GOING forward and slide, while a man who witnessed the entire thing screamed "SAFE!"
A few months ago, I was walking on 5th Avenue and fell on that slippery marble-type sidewalk, and it looked so bad that a woman behind me ran over to me and thought I was dead...it really wasn't that bad....and plus, it was a little rainy outside, and I've since then gotten rubber soles put on my shoes.
And then....Saturday...I misjudged the step in my house and twisted my ankle. My two brothers and husband saw the whole thing and again I went face forward on the floor and remained there for a good ten minutes b/c I was in so much pain....
DH thinks I should be the new Bubble Girl...and I'm convinced I must have some type of balance issue....is there ANYTHING I can do???

Re: Are you Accident Prone?
I think certain people are just prone to it. I am the same way, although I have a problem with stairs...going up or down them...I fall ALL the time. It got to the point where I don't even get embarrased anymore, I just at myself.

Yes, sometimes I think I am semi-retarded. I fell just the other day walking down to the subway - and I was wearing sneakers!

Re: Are you Accident Prone?
Ahhh, I might be your competition there missy:
I sprained my ankle getting off the bus in high school. Don't know how.
I started a fire at a B&B by falling asleep with candles lit (ok, that's stupid, not clumsy)
I've been in over 15 accidents. (the funniest being, I came home and my car, which was parked up the hill a block, was sitting in front of my apartment, lodged up against a fire hydrant)
I broke my elbow 2 weeks before I was supposed to go on a "suprise" engagement trip to the swiss alps for skiing - how? I was walking over a restaurant grate as it started opening and it catapulted me into the air
I broke my nose once - this is pretty damn funny. I used to work with computers. I strapped a PC onto a dolly with a band. I delivered at someone's work desk and when I stopped to tell him I had his PC, the band unhooked from the dolly, flew over the PC and knocked me in the nose, about 1/4 inch from my eye. It broke my nose and I had to black eyes for an entire month.
I broke my foot walking down some stairs. Don't ask how, I have no idea.
The list goes on and on and on... for this very reason, DH bought me a Toyota Sequioa for when my daughter was born, to shield her from my klutziness!

Re: Are you Accident Prone?
Yes, I walk into walls at home constantly
I've been known to just fall for no apparent reason (just did this in a parking garage in the city two weeks ago)
two days before my wedding, I got out of a cab in the city when I was meeting my family for dinner. I was literally stable on my feet, and the next thing I knew, I was on my hands and knees in the middle of the street.

Re: Are you Accident Prone?
OMG, I fall all the time (only when drunk). My friends laugh at me, because I'm a klutz when wasted.
These stories are too much. I actually laughed out loud at my monitor while someone was walking by my cubicle. That was tough to explain, I just said "don't ask."

Re: Are you Accident Prone?
You sound like me -- I am always banging into or tripping over something. I am a little better but for a while it was awful.
I actually fell 3 different times in 2 weeks - once over one of those hinges on the basement doors on the sidewalk and once (no joke) on the door saddle at Penn Station.

Re: Are you Accident Prone?
I am totally with you.
I fall over nothing.
Everytime I bump into a wall, DH says "Watch out, that just went up yesterday"
I just try and walk really really slow.

My DH told me I should have my coolie insured.

Re: Are you Accident Prone?
I fell down the stairs at a company holiday party when my heel got caught in the cuff of my pants.
This happened to me in HS too, when pallazo pants were in. I tripped so fast, I pulled my pants down.

Re: Are you Accident Prone?
I am! I don't think I can compete with the stories you have posted though.
I did sprain my ankle in highschool by just walking down the stairs. I missed one, apparently.
I usually stumble over my feet walking into my boss's office.. he had a big end table in there that I whacked my knee on a few times (and had a lovely purple bruise for the next 2 weeks). So he got a smaller table because it really was just too big. And now instead of banging my knee on it, I hit my shin, or catch my foot in one of the legs as I'm walking back to my desk.
ETA: How can I forget!!! I gave myself a concussion on rollerblades. Except I was sitting down at the time. I had just whacked myself right in the bread basket and didn't realize I wasn't breathing. So I passed out and landed on my head.
I also have one pair of pants that I can't wear with pointy shoes because I've caught the toe of one foot into the cuff of the other leg and fallen flat on my face.

Re: Are you Accident Prone?
I am...I always fall and twist my ankle in holes in the ground...one time I fell in a hole in front of DH's grandfathers house (when we first started dating) and went head first into his Uncles boat that was in the driveway. DH didn't know what to do, he felt so bad and all i could do was laugh. What a great impression i left on him

Re: Are you Accident Prone?
I fall all the time too.
At work, we are on the second floor and usually we all go down the fire stairs instead of taking the elevator. Well, I've fallen down them about 3x, so when I got pregnant, my bosses pretty much forced me to start taking the elevator. I hate it, but I realize it is for the best.
I take teeny, tiny steps on that marble in front of buildings here in the city. I HATE it when it rains.
