are we crazy?
Long story short we are buying my in-laws house at the end of the year. We already live there. Whole house has to be gutted and redone but we got it at a really low price.
Last night we started working on the baby room pulling off paneling and figuring out whate needs to be done. Our friends are telling us not to call it the baby's room till we actually have a baby but iwe can't help it that's what we think of the room.
Are we crazy or just possibly setting ourselves up for dissapointment since I haven't had a bfp yet?

But we aren't decorating or anything we are just gutting it and redoing it so if we do get prego the baby has someplace brand new to sleep it.

Re: are we crazy?
no i don't think you're crazy. you're not decorating it with baby stuff so imo having a room tagged as a "baby's room" if and when a baby arrives is fine. we thought about the same thing when we bought our house. granted the room is notw bright orange, but i'm hoping we can work with that lol.

That's fine. ......its not something I would do but like I said that's just my opinion. I'm not telling u if I think its right or wrong. If I did that I'd have an empty room for a year and a half now.....not something I'd want to look at for that long. We moved into our house and redid everything including What one day will be a nursery but now its just another bedroom and that what we call it. I'm not one to count my chickens.......its really just a personal decision

i see what you mean alli - ours is an office right now. i'm sitting in it on my computer. it's been the office and will remain that way for the next several months. but, when we were buying we did think about where we'd put a nursery because we do have our MBR on the 1st floor (and the office is the only other room that's an option for nursery).

Re: are we crazy?
Nope, you're not crazy at all. In fact, my SD has been referring to our spare room/office as the baby's room since we moved in a few years ago. She'll actually correct anybody who refers to it as our spare room and say, "no, that's the baby's room".

Re: are we crazy?
i dont see the difference in calling it the babys room vs calling it the extra bedroom... it doesnt really matter its not as if calling it the babys room is somehow going to have an effect on your fertility!

It wont have an effect on my fertility but it is a metal thing. To have a room empty waiting for a baby for 1.5 years with no luck is not somthing I could handle emotionally. Like I said to each their own. If she is able to have that room "the babys room" then go for it...I was jsut staing why I couldnt do it.

Re: are we crazy?
We have spare rooms in our house. One is totally empty. We say it's the future nursery. There is no point in painting it or filling it up with furnture now because eventually it will be the baby's room. We knew which rooms would be for the kids before we bought the house It's part of the reason we bought a home with extra bedrooms.
I don't think it is weird to prepare the room by making it liveable To have a space ready is smart if you plan on having a child in the future.
I always say "one day" it will be the baby's room. I don't call it the baby's room.

No. i disagree. We have called one of our rooms the nursery way before getting our bfp. We knew someday it was going to be a kids room.

Re: are we crazy?
We have a room that we have not put any furniture in...but i keep my shoes in there and I have a long mirror and do my hair there...so sometimes we call it my shoe room...other times we call it the nursery, and we just started TTC last month There are a lot worse things I do that I can be called crazy for

Re: are we crazy?
To each their own-- but I think referring to it as a future nursery is one thing, while calling it THE baby's room is another. However, it's just semantics! I don't think you are crazy-- you just know what room in your house your future child will sleep in!

Re: are we crazy?
First, you're not crazy, just beautifully optimistic!
We don't refer to our would-be nursery that way, but that's because I just can't go there mentally until it's my time. It's my self-protective nature.
I also would never buy a baby item for my baby until I was at least pregnant, but I know plenty of people here have bought baby items that are still TTC.
Different strokes for different folks!

ITA! I wouldn't call it anything until I had a reason to.To me it's like putting the cart before the horse.
If YOU are comfortable calling it that then you should.

I agree with this. Its one thing to say, "This is my babys room" vs. "This will one day be the nursey" JMO

Re: are we crazy?
We have a room we call "the nursery" and unfortunately its been baby-less for almost a year now
We haven't emptied it or prepared it in any way to be a new room... right now we are using it as storage. I'm glad it's storage. If it was empty, it would be too sad.. especially given the situation.

Re: are we crazy?
We kept all our rooms empty....when we discussed them or showed people our house we would say baby 1 room...baby 2 room. Baby 3 room.....my fam doesn't believe in decorating til baby is born though.
I called it baby 1 room and Is filled with a healthy 6 month old

Re: are we crazy?
To be honest we bought our house a little over a year ago and we painted all of the rooms in the house. One of the bedrooms we painted a sea foam green and this is our dedicated baby room....we weren't even trying at the time but we created a baby room because we are hopeful that one day this will happen for us.....so I say you are not crazy at all

Re: are we crazy?
I don't. DH and I have a 2 bdrm coop. We never even decorated the 2nd the bdrm bc to me it was always going to be the babies room so what was the point?
We have a futon and some workout equipment in there. Other than that it is waiting to be decorated for the baby and has been since we bought the place 2 yrs ago

Re: are we crazy?
I totally understand preparing it for a livable space. Like taking the paneling down, painting, etc.
But I personally wouldn't call it the baby's room. We painted a room a neutral color knowing someday it would be a baby's room, but never once called it that... we called it the den or the guestroom, etc. never the baby's room. For me this would have been mentally draining to call it a baby's room when we were experiencing a BFN month after month after month ..... esp after a mc as well. It would just serve as a reminder every time I said or heard the baby's room.. that it was STILL empty after all this trying and trying.
Right now I'm pregnant, and I still don't call that room the baby's room. It's still the guest room or the den to us. I wonder when this will change, or when I will feel comfortable calling it that.... perhaps when we have all the furniture and the baby is really close to being here. IDK.
Either way... that's just me. If you are comfortable calling it that, then go for it. Call it whatever you want. It's your house and your room... and if friends don't like it, oh well.
