Re: are we allowed to have Diet ginger ale?
Yes. AND regular ginger ale
FYI: there are no preggo police that will come and arrest you if you do/eat/smell something that you are not "supposed" to. And overthinking everything that you are around/eating will just drive you bananas. So unless you are doing drugs, you usually are ok

Re: are we allowed to have Diet ginger ale?
I think anything diet has artifical sweetners in it. But my doctor did say the diet sodas were ok as long as you drink them in moderation. I treated myself to a diet cherry pepsi last week and i was in heaven

Yes- but I have personally chosen to lay off the artificial sweeteners, so I drink regular ginger ale....

Every doctor is different, mine says no problem what so ever, and drink it all the time (not just in moderation).

i can totally understand how "am i allowed to eat" posts might be maddening to people who are further along in their pregnancies or to people who have done the pregnancy thing more than once. but there are lots of us on this board who are newly pregnant and who are just starting to sort through this process, which seems very overwhelming at times.
there is so much conflicting information out there on the internet and in books about what you "should" and "shouldn't" do. questions about which things are "allowed" find their way on this board because this is a forum where you can get people's actual experience - not just a list of "dos" and "don'ts".
the "can i eat this" posts are very clearly stated - so if they drive you nuts, why even read them?
i realize that i am new here and that i risk starting drama by writing this - that is not my intention. i would just hate to see women afraid to ask questions on here for fear of sounding stupid or getting flamed. it seems to me that that would defeat the purpose of this board in the first place.
Well, to be honest, everyone gets different advice from their doctors so even if you asking these questions, chances are, you will get quite a few different answers.
if you are really, really unsure you should ask your doctor. And usually common sense will tell you what is bad or good. And most things that we all eat and drink will be fine, in moderation.

i agree, and i think that part of what people want to know by posting those questions is what other people's doctors have told them. it's all part of trying to make an informed decision.
i also agree that your doctor is the ultimate resource for any burning questions - but finding out what women on here think is also a valuable resource, even if the opinions are conflicting.
in the end, i think we all know that everything is fine in moderation. but i think the will-i-hurt-my-baby paranoia gets the best of all of us sometimes (newly preggos especially), and we just need the momentary reassurance that it's fine.

Alex-well said. I'm sure everyone was in our shoes at one time!? Since we can't call our doctor for every question, we come on here to see if someone here already has the answer. All we can ask for is some patience.

But some is common sense IMO.
We have had like at least 40 can I have wine posts in my 24 pregnant weeks.
Why not use the search feature first?
And the rest, well would you wait on here for 5 hours for an answer or would you go to google and get that answer in 2.2 seconds?

Re: are we allowed to have Diet ginger ale?
I may google some things, refer to my books for others, or come on here, depends on how urgently I need to know. I also always try and search a topic on here before posting it again.

i don't disagree with any of the points you're making. some questions DO seem like common sense, but i think sometimes the paranoia just sets in and you need someone to tell you it's ok. i don't know about anyone else, but sometimes i am paralyzed with fear that i will do something "wrong". i can see how that type of feeling would lead some people to post these types of questions.
using the search feature on LIF and google are both helpful and can give you some answers. but actually asking the question in real time gives you the chance to have an actual dialogue with people on here about the issue. maybe for some people, that is worth the extra time. i know that for some questions i have, it is worth it to have it take a little longer and to actually "talk" about some of this stuff.
i guess the bottom-line point i am trying to make is, we all use this board for different reasons and get different benefits from it. if some posts seem redundant or annoying to some people, there is no reason to click on them.

very true and you are saying things like issues and questions. People should post anything they want, I agree.....This isint about issues and questions....
I have seen "can I eat a lolli-pop" threads. And cmon, if you cant figure that out on your own, rude or not, IMO your in trouble....
I think that pregnant women need to educate themselves, simply as that.

i definitely see where you're coming from, and i certainly believe that it's every pregnant woman's responsibility to educate herself in the best way she knows how.
but if people see posts that annoy them, why even go there? why not ignore them and move on? that's my issue with this thread. no reason, imo, to make comments about the question that would make the poster feel bad for having asked it.
