Architects?
Did anyone have structural work done on their house that they needed an architect for?
How did you go about finding one? Did you get a recommendation? I'm not sure where to start...

Re: Architects?
Yes, we used several architects (we have friends who are expiditers, and they recommended several).
Do you have any idea which builder you will be going with? You can always call around to the contracters and ask who they recommend.

Re: Architects?
I am also planning on getting some major work done this year. I have one recommendation from a friend, but I'd like to check out at least two before I start the process, so if someone could FM me a contact, it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Architects?
We're currently going through construction (should be 95% finished this week ) and we had structural changes that needed footings, steel work, etc. Our contractor provided his own architect which was a huge bonus for us. Otherwise I wouldn't have known where to start. We used a contractor that worked on my sisters and a friends house.
My friend is starting a huge extension on her house in Ireland and she started with getting recommendations for an architect and contractor from her neighbors that had similar work done. First she found the architect to draw up the plans, then they went to a quantity surveyor to price out the job to give them an idea of the total cost. Then they applied for the planning permission and in the meantime got quotes from three contractors.

Re: Architects?
No, did not have these issues but I use expeditors at an engineering/architectural firm in Melville for work related stuff. I would start with them or as a cheaper option, my friend's husband is also an architect.
Start by asking family & friends.
If you want the name of the Melville company FM me.
