Re: Anyone's DH work nights???
no not mine.. but can he get off immediately if you go into labor? is he far away?
if you think about it, as long as he can take off and come running if you go into labor, its no different than a hubby who works during the day.. the only ones who have it real good are the ones whose hubby's work at home..

it would take him about 20-25 minutes to get home luckily the hospital is about 8 blocks away

Re: Anyone's DH work nights???
do u have someone near by that will be wth you as you get closer to the due date? that can take you to the hospital so yo don't have to wait for him to get home?
maybe as u get closer a family member can stay over at night.. so if u go into labor they can drive you and he can meet you there.. i'm due in 2 weeks (have a scheduled c next week though) since i can go at any time now, i stay at my moms house when hubby isn't home.. so if something should happen, she can drive me to the hospital and he'll meet us there..

Re: Anyone's DH work nights???
I don't think its any different if he worked days. My dad worked nights and my mom went into labor when my dad was at work (He worked in midtown Manhattan and we lived in Ronkonkoma). This was her second birth and her hospital was Winthrop. She still made it to the hospital on time. I am more concerned with not being able to get in touch w/ DH if he is out. Right now he is out hanging out w/ a friend and I noticed he left his cell at home by accident (which he forgets a lot) As long as he can get home in time its not a big deal. My DH rides his bike 14 miles to work each way on nice days. He keeps joking that he will meet me at the hospital If it gets that bad, I will take a cab and he will meet me there!

Re: Anyone's DH work nights???
My DH works all across LI and NYC so it may be interesting...........although I expect him to be taking some downtime around the time the is due. My FIL already has offered to drive me/us since everyone knows DH probably is going to be nutso that day regardless. He practically had a panic attack when he went with me to LIJ for a test once due to all the traffic/people there during a mid-week afternoon.

Re: Anyone's DH work nights???
My husband doesn't work nights but he travels internationally for work a lot. For instance he's flying to Turkey in a week and then the following week he is flying to Indonesia...THAT scares me. I have this feeling that I will go into labor while he's thousands of miles away and won't make it back in time.
I told him that he needs to tell his boss that he can't travel for 1 month before the baby comes...hopefully he can convince him of that.

Re: Anyone's DH work nights???
My dh travels and has overnights. Although I am having a scheduled c-section, I am nervous that I may need to go in earlier or God Forbid an emergency and he is not here.

Mine does-- it is scry, but hopefully he can get off at a moment's notice. If not, he can meet me at the hospital.

Re: Anyone's DH work nights???
I worry about this too. Hopefully he can get some day shifts around the due date. But my dad worked nights and when my mom went in to labor she called him and waited for him to get home to take her. He was in the city and she was in Seaford and they made it.

Re: Anyone's DH work nights???
my DH works days but gets a lot of mandatory overtime, and there is a very very good chance i could go into labor when he is at work. he is 1/2 hour away from our house at JFK, but he is pretty close to the hospital actually...
although i doubt that this would ever be a problem, because this is our first so if i go into labor he still has plenty of time to get home while i labor at home.
in case of an emergency, my mom works 10 minutes from my office and lives 5 minutes from our house so on the off chance that he can't get here in time she will take me to the hospital.
i don't forsee any issues.

No, not an air marshall, but he IS a federal agent. How did you guess? Strange thing is, my brother was actually a Fed Air Marshall for 6 years...

I agree...like if i went into labor during the day and we were both at work, I work by wall street, he works in midtown and our hospital is on the upper east side. If i'm on the subway or still at home in the morning and he's already left for work (he's at work by 7 am, i don't leave my house until 8), it would take a while for us to meet up. It's scary either way I guess...you just don't want to be alone when it happens. I'm most scared of my water breaking on the subway. He might actually switch to nights and weekend in a couple of weeks. I'm more worried about him not being home to run and get me food when i want it.
