Anyone's DC take Albuterol
DS has had 3 nasty coughs in the past 9 months or so. Lots of visits to the ped with the "let it clear up on its own, it's a virus" thing.
Finally, got a script for albuterol. It has worked wonders and has surpressed the cough.
DS was never diagnosed with asthma but are there any of conditions that albuterol is prescribed for?

Re: Anyone's DC take Albuterol
It is used for wheezing sometimes both related to asthma and non asthmatic wheezing.
My older dd has been in on it off and on since she was young because she had rsv and a few other times when she had respiratory infections. She does not have asthma.
My youngest has been on it this entire winter & spring. My ped said its safe to say she has asthma. Every small cold has turned into asthma.

Anyone's DC take Albuterol
Not diagnosed with asthma but she had pneumonia which dr thins was caused by rsv virus and like 3x times had a horrible cold/cough. What seemed to help each time was after several days of suffering finally an ab would clear it up. Also added a steroid in with the albuterol.

Anyone's DC take Albuterol
My kids were never diagnosed with Asthma but wind up on the albuterol every time they get coughs. Especially my son. The twins were preemies and he has had lung issues since he was born. Every time the albuterol helps clear it up pretty quickly.

DC do nebulizers with saline or albuterol often. Any time they get a cold/cough, it leads to pneumonia.

Re: Anyone's DC take Albuterol
One of my DC takes it for Cough Variant Asthma, which is an allergy induced asthma and not asthma in the traditional sense. It started when DC was little, we realized it was the cat and had to rehome him. It also happens with DC seasonal allergies and he is on albuterol then as well, as needed.

Re: Anyone's DC take Albuterol
Yes. I got an rx for Albuterol for cat allergies in 2007 and bronchitis in 2012.
ETA: both times I was on other medications as well. Not just the inhaler.

DS gets Albuterol every time he is sick. I usually bring it from work, but his ped. says it's ok to give it to him. DS doesn't have asthma! Make sure you brush your DC's teeth after- it might stained the teeth
