Anyone's DC qualify for speech at 12 months?

DS is 12 months and I want him evaluated for speech. Realistically, if I call tomorrow the evaluation won't take place until he is close to 13 months. My ped said to wait until at least 15 months b/c if he doesn't qualify now I'll then have to wait at least 6 months. Did anyone's child get evaluated and qualify 12 months? If so, what qualified him? DS is 12 months and barely babbling still. He mainly says "ah" while pointing. He can say "wa wa" and I did hear him say "mama" once, but that was over a month ago. Some days he doesn't babble at all and other days he'll say "wa wa" if prompted. He's very social but has no words. He does pick up a phone, put it to his hear and it seems like he is trying to say hello but but comes out more like an "ahh" also. He never said dada and never said mama to me.

My DD qualified at 12 months. She had no speech. I actually had her evaluated before 12 months (around 10 months b/c she wasn't babbling yet). The evaluator told me that she was definately delayed, but because of her age, she was being compared with other kids 6-12 months, at which point they aren't really expected to have much speech. She told me to have her re-evaluated a day after she turned a year, and then she would be compared to other kids 12-18 months who ARE expected to have speech, and she would definately qualify. That is what I did. I didn't have to wait 6 months to have her re-evaluated.

DS did. I rather be proactive then wait. My ped as well told me to wait.
at 12 months he had no speech whatsoever and no babble at all.

Case worker, not ei evaluaters came 2 weeks ago for quick 6 month reeval with us and speech therapist. She bumped his speech sessions up to twice a week and as per speech therapist recommendation, an ot eval has been now scheduled. At 19the months, he still has no speech and only babbled once.

Family tells us we're crazy that he'll speak when he wants to but I see it as utilizing as much extra help as possible! If you want an eval now, go ahead and call to schedule one! :)
