Anyone's DC eat Hummus? Do you
Make it yourself?
ANyone have a good recipe?
My DD LOVES hummus, it's the only thing she will eat without fail. Seriously she could eat it for every meal.
I want to make it myself since $5 bucks a container that she goes through in days.
Thanks!

Cailen absolutely LOOOOOOOVES hummos - he can't get enough of it - there is a brand that he loves the most - it is very creamy - he goes mad for it - let me check my fridge and see if we have it so I can tell you the brand name....

you can definintely make your own...its pretty easy...just garbanzo beans/chickpeas, lemon juice, olive oil, tahini (if you want) and any flavorings you like...we make ours in the food processor

Re: Anyone's DC eat Hummus? Do you
yes. she likes it a lot. i have made it myself in the past.. from the williams sonoma cook book i have: I've made it from dried chick peas and canned- honestly the canned is just as good and saves a lot of time.
Ingredients: • 4 1/2 cups canned chick peas (or 1 1/2 cups dried chick peas soaked overnight and then simmered uncovered for 1 hour) •1/2 cup fresh lemon juice, or to taste •1/2 cup tahini •4 tablespoons olive oil •3-5 cloves minced garlic- to taste •1/4 tsp cumin •salt & pepper to taste
I used a food processor to throw in the chickpeas, the lemon juice, the tahini, and 3 tablespoons of olive oil, garlic, salt & cumin. Process until creamy- then I taste and adjust- if i need more garlic, salt, lemon, etc.

We eat buckets full a week - DH doesn't make homeade hummus but instead makes homeade Tahini - if you're interested (Alex loves it just as much) I can give you the recipe. Straight from Israel, too!

Do you use dried chick peas and reconsitute or it is better with the canned? Do you just eyeball the ingredients?
Liza-my DD loves it too, I buy Tribe Hummus. I love hummus myself! I am deathly allergic to Pine nuts, i can't even touch them it's weird cause i have no other nut allergies Thanks for checking though! How much is the Sabra? Tribe's big container is $5!

Re: Anyone's DC eat Hummus? Do you
I make it myself, pretty much like Lauren does above. But I also add salt and pepper and I reserve some of the water from the chick pea can so not to use an obscene amount of olive oil.
I think tahini is a must though - that's what gives it the hummus taste.
I also get whole wheat pitas and cut them into wedges, line them on a baking sheet and sprinkle with some olive oil. 4-5 minutes in a very hot oven makes a great chip to dip in the hummus. (check them often so they don't burn)

Sabra is the only brand of hummus/tahina that Dh will buy (he's Israeli so he's a hummus/tahina SNOB) - it's imported from Israel and it's seriously the bestest.
When Dh gets home tonight I'll post his Tahina recipe for all of you!

you don't taste the cumin itself - but the hummus will definitely taste "funny" if you leave it out - i think it cuts the garlic and lemon juice and kind of "softens" the taste.

Grace LOVES it! It is SO easy to make if you have a food processor.
You need: Sesame Tahini garlic olive oil chick peas and a little bit of water blend until smooth & eat!

I agree, you def need the cumin, and I hate it by itself or when you can smell/taste it.......it's necessary to tast right IMO....
