Anyone with SallieMae loans?

It used to be that Sallie Mae would mail me a bill every month.
Then about 2 years ago they got smart and started mailing a bill with coupons for 3 months at a time.
NOW they don't even send bills, I need to remember to send them a payment!!!!

I have asked at least 4 times for them to mail me a bill every month, nothing!

Anyone have this problem?
It's very annoying to keep track of sending 50 bucks to these people!!!!!

Re: Anyone with SallieMae loans?

I feel the same way!!!! I usually send a lot every few months (say $1000 instead of $300 a month). I can't keep track of the monthly without a reminder!

Re: Anyone with SallieMae loans?

I'm thinking of paying the whole friggin thing off just so I don't have to be bothered anymore.
But the interest is so low, well not anymore, and I can think of tons of other things I could do with $1800!!!

I used to get a coupon book for the whole year, then I used to get a statement for 3 mos...now I just get an email each month with the information that I need to pay the bill. I print it out and then send my payment. However, I think you can set it up for an automatic deduction each month from your checking account. Go the the website www.salliemae.com and enter your account info(usually your social) and then it will give you the options.

Can you have it deducted from your savings? I never keep $$$$ in my checking and I 'm not gonna start with that now!!!

I am not sure...you can check out the options from the website. It is pretty user friendly.

I set up an automatic withdrawl.

I think they will take .25 % off of your interest rate as well, if you do this

Re: Anyone with SallieMae loans?

Well, this totally destroyed my credit. My mom pays for these loans through a savings account I have under her name (she wanted to be in charge of this so whatever). She would get the coupons and send in the bills. She has been doing this since 2000.

But then they stopped sending the coupons and then, my friend, the creditors called me. Why you ask, bc we missed ONE MONTH and now it's permantently on my credit report

I have been fighting with Sallie Mae since 2005 and even called in a lawyer, bc while I understand it is my responsibility to remember--you dont change protocol and NOT communicate it to your client base.

We set up automatic withdrawals b/c it was such a nightmare to even get email statements.

Re: Anyone with SallieMae loans?

mine are on deferral right now, so i have one loan that is accruing interest and one that is not. Everymonth i ask that they apply the entire payment to the loan that is accruing the interest, b/c i really don't have to be paying at all. and every month they apply it to both and of course more goes to the non interest loan and it takes me about 4 phone calls to get it right while the other loan accrues more interest every day.

I think that they outsource their customer service to india b/c everyone I speak with is indian.

Really? I never get an Indian sounding person. Chat Icon

I actually yelled at the guy today about mailing me a paper bill, he said, "I'll put in the request", I said sure, but will it get done? I'm sure it won't.

The emails don't even come on time!!!!!!

I'm with ya sista, that's just my PRIVATE loan. My consolidated with Nelnet is $36K. That's got a better rate of 2%, so that's not getting paid off anytime soon....Chat Icon

I always do. Yeah, they always pull that request thing. Then i call to follow up b/c nothing has happened and they say that there is no record of a request.....Chat Icon

Keep on top of them! I had this issue with them where I did NOT get stmts/bills for a while. It turns out that I was the victim of identity theft.

Someone called and was able to change the mailing address on my account and also apply/receive a loan UNDER MY NAME.

I needed to file a police report etc.
MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR STMTS

I've been doing automatic withdrawals from my account for the past 10 years. Never a problem. Good thing is, I have only about $2500 more to pay off!
