anyone with a newborn that has
acid reflux?
I am wondering if my DS has it. Is coughing a symptom? He is 5 weeks and gaining weight but after feeding he seems really uncomfortable moving his body around, grunting and then coughing like he smokes.
He doesn't spit up often but when he does its projectile
The Dr. gave me a nebulizer for the cough but it hasn't gone away. I am wondering if it's related to reflux
Sound familiar to anyone???

Yes, they can get a little cough from it. Everything else sounds like reflux too especially the forceful spitup. My DD grunted while eating all the time but that stopped when we switched formula. She had a milk protein allergy.

tyhe grunting sounds like Milk protien allergy.. My 2nd DS has that..
My first had relux.. but silent relfux..yes they can get a cough from it but mine never did.. just screamed the second the formula hit his throat!!

It could be acid reflux or an intolerance to dairy/ a milk allergy. They present very similarly in babies. My DD had grunting, gagging, fussiness after eating and frequent spit up. Turned out to be a sensitivity to lactose so we had to change her formula.

anyone with a newborn that has
definitely sounds like reflux or a milk protein allergy. Of the symptoms you mentioned, the projectile vomit sounds like a milk protein allergy. Everything else sounds like reflux.

For a milk protein allergy, they take a stool sample to look for any trace of blood. DD's test came back negative, but she often had mucous in her diaper which is another symptom. Ped put her on Alimentum, but it made her throw up after every bottle. So, I made the decision to switch to Similac Sensitive and she's soooooo much better.

definitely! Acid reflux AND milk protein allergy cause congestion/cough. My dd had it she had both. Changed her formula to alimentum and she was put on zantac and I had a brand new VERY happy baby!
