Anyone w/o power staying at a hotel tonight?
My parents, brother, and nephew are. They have no power and Kenneth can't use the chair-glide on the stairs to get downstairs b/c there's no power. Also, his bed has a special air-inflating mattress that deflates when there's no power.
We are not sure how long it will be out but it has been out since 7am (and they are saying on TV it could be DAYS) so we can't take chances being that it will be getting dark soon. The food, at this point, has gone bad so staying there is just not possible. I think if Ken wasn't hurt we could try to find ways to muddle through but not in this case with him being in a wheelchair.
DH and I are staying with my sister who is the only one who has power out of all of us - unfortunately, she has no extra room and the bedrooms are upstairs with no chair-glide so it doesn't help Kenneth.
My nephew is just thrilled the hotel has an indoor pool to be a kid again!
Anywho, the point of this is, I tried calling DOZENS of hotels on the Island - some have power with no vacancy, some have NO power *and* NO vacancy! But they are just filled to the gills no matter where I called but FINALLY I found ONE place with ONE room
Anyone else staying at a hotel OR know someone who is? Apparently a lot of people are!

Did you call lipa to be a critical care resident? You should, so that Kenneth gets priority from lipa

Re: Anyone w/o power staying at a hotel tonight?
Stayed at your parent's house last night since we were in a flood surge zone. They lost power at around 1 a.m. and are still without power.
Our block is right by a marina so we expect to be without power for a few days. Right now we just plan on sucking it up and staying home. Don't want to bother with a hotel because who knows how long we'll be without power and I don't really feel like spending the money hotel when we are unsure if it will be 1 night or 5.

YES! My neighbors next door alerted LIPA before the storm started because they have a disabled child who has a hospital bed and breathing machine. LIPA assured them that if our development lost power they'd make sure to get here before other places.

We did this during hurricane Isobel. It hit MD pretty bad and we had no electricity, hot water, etc. Our trip was planned beforehand, but we were so happy to get away.

Re: Anyone w/o power staying at a hotel tonight?
We just checked in a couple of hours ago. Fortunately found a hotel with couple of rooms left. Hope our power comes back on soon, but for now, I feel like I'm on vacation after that ordeal today. Seriously never want to go through that again. Awful.

Yeah I found a number for people who are disabled -- thanks! I will call tomorrow at 8am when they reopen. They are not open now for these issues.

Maybe try the Chalet in Centerport? It's not a very well-known hotel.

Re: Anyone w/o power staying at a hotel tonight?
My sister has machines that keep her alive, and shes on their list. Lipa has to park a truck to power the house in my moms driveway if they can't restore power quick enough. They dropped a generator off before the storm also! Def call!
