just wondering how the prices/service compares

and as a sidenote - would you go with carpet in a basement of vinyl flooring of some type?

Re: anyone use empire for carpeting?

I've heard that Empire is very expensive.

We used Jim Flack (the guy with a hole in his head) on Rt 110. We bought remnants for 3 of our rooms and sculpted carpet for two rooms....

We also requested the "A" team for install. Had zero problems, zero complaints. My bro is in the process of using them too... Turns out he knew one of the installers! I don't know if he requested a specific install crew like us though.

Your question - do you mean over the vinyl or like next to it? If you mean over - I would install right over it, if you mean next to it (to separate areas) I would rip up the vinyl and put actual tile (you already know your dad does a good job)! Chat Icon

Re: anyone use empire for carpeting?

My parents used Empire for their window treatments and carpeting and I thought they were VERY expensive. My mom was impressed by their availability and selection and that is why she went with them. She wanted it done!

Re: anyone use empire for carpeting?

They were very over priced... I decided to replace our carpet about 24 hours before I had a huge piece of furniture delivered and Empire was the only company that was able to do it in such a short amount of time. So, to save me the hassle of having the furniture moved into a different room and then moved back... I decided just to pay the extra money but, it cost a lot more then what the other carpet stores in my area quoted me (the quality and service were very good though).

about your side note - I would prob go with carpet for a basement... actually i think it would probably depend on what you plan on using the basement for.

Re: anyone use empire for carpeting?

Just had an estimate yesterday for Berber in my den.
They wanted $1000 for a 14x16 room Chat Icon (And that was after I talked him down) We got a better deal from Loews with a higher oz carpet. He only had three samples, the first two were crap and looked cheap. The third one was a 43 oz but still more expensive than a better grade Mohawk berber we had at Loews.

Re: anyone use empire for carpeting?

Ive heard they were expensive so I didnt even bother getting an estimate... We havent done the carpeting yet so I dont have a referral for you... But I would carpet the basement... Basements are usually colder (I know this is a given but we lived in a basement apt that was like a sauna- very odd)...The carpet will act as more of an insulator and if you're having children down the road, I would think it would be better for them...

Re: anyone use empire for carpeting?

We went with them, they were def more expensive if you didn't buy the in stock carpet in your local carpet store (from the stores I had priced), but if you had to order a carpet that wasn't in stock I think they were in the same ball park if not cheaper.

I got berber for my den and just got plush for my bedroom and have been very happy with them. The carpets look & feel great!

Re: anyone use empire for carpeting?

Empire is very Chat Icon Chat Icon We have gotten estimates from them on several occasions and ended up going to home depot.

Does your basement flood at all? We are in a flood zone and flood each time it rains for a few days. We had just had the 5 yr old carpet replaced this year b/c of a flood only to have it flood again 3 days later. (we pulled up the carpet and just place it back down temporarily)

Lowed recommended the tiles that get apoxied down b/c it would be easier to just mop it up if it flooded again.

Re: anyone use empire for carpeting?

I used empire for a very small bedroom and they were cheaper than other places.....way cheaper than Lowes and HD. I did have to talk the guy down and he basically asked me what I wanted to pay and I told him....he asked for 25 more and so we made a deal.

I think it depends on the salesperson cause its basically the commission they make gets cut.

No! We had someone from Empire come to our house and the woman was crazy.... I was definitely scared LOL! But, their prices were almost double what we paid from someone my sister used.
