Re: Anyone shop at Aldi?
I'm very weird with brands so when I went I stuck to the basics.
I bought their Ginger Ale (which was the best I've ever tried…tasted like real ginger), Gatorade knockoff, and then stuff to make cleaning products: baking soda, vinegar and lemon juice.
Everything was dirt cheap.

Re: Anyone shop at Aldi?
I hit my local Aldi yesterday and thought I would update.
I spent about $45 and was able to get some basics- milk, OJ, chicken, toilet paper and a few things to try- frozen pizza, crescent rolls, ground turkey. The prices were really good- I got a bag each of Hershey miniatures, kisses and peanut butter cups. Each bag was less than $3, I think where I live they are closer to $4 for the same size. So far, we've had the OJ, which was just as good as the brands we usually get. The milk was fine. I bought DH a bag of mesquite BBQ chips and those were good as well. The package of chicken was large- I don't recall the weight, but about $5 and I made sauce today with the turkey. Everything I've tried so far, I'd purchase again.
I read the labels because I was leery of the boxes- they reminded me of dollar store stuff. But everything was made by Aldi even though the brand names differed across items.
The only thing I wasn't prepared for at checkout was the fact that the cashier put all my stuff into a cart. There was no bagging area. I had to scramble to move everything back into my cart and into my bags. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to swap my cart for the one she had but then I wondered about my quarter.
I still had to hit my regular grocery- which I'd expected so it was fine- they didn't have honey, or splenda, or Boboli. I will definitely go back.

Re: Anyone shop at Aldi?
I heard from one of the workers at Rite Aid in Patchogue that they are putting an Aldi in that shopping center. Where Sears Hardware was.

Aldi is not bad overall. You can save a lot of money but selections is limited. Aldi owns trader joes, but I still prefer trader joes because it offers a lot more organic products. Aldi has some brand name stuff for cheap too. I saw Pringles 1.5 or so. I bought Tyson's ground chicken for 1.99/lb and

Bumping bc now the Aldi in Patchogue is opened.
I'm specific with some brands too...like I love my Cheerios! But my DH isn't picky when it comes to snacks for him to bring to work, so I plan to check it out soon!

Re: Anyone shop at Aldi? (bumped bc now the Patchogue one is opened).
I have now been a few times and have my staples. I find their meat prices and its quality to be great. There is a noticeable price difference. I find the fruit hit or miss, it usually doesn't look great. Good coffee, chips, frozen items and baking goods- brown sugar, etc. I got great prices on Easter candy.
One weird thing is that the one near me does not sell skim milk, only 1%, 2% and whole.

Living in the land of Aldi, I can't stand shopping there. I hate the set up of the boxes and everything. I go to an American sized supermarket here because then I have to make fewer stops.
If I lived in the US, I'd probably shop there for the German chocolate and yogurt, though.

Been going to Aldi's for many, many years. Just as any grocery store some things are good & others aren't. The do on occasion have name brand items too. I especially love their specials section. I see nothing wrong with using a quarter to get a cart. Keeps it off the parking lot & saves the store $ to not have to pay someone to pick them up all the time. Also...the no bags is great. Making thing greener. No different than going to a BJ's or Costco.
