Anyone potty train really early??
I mean ultra early...my mom and I were talking the other day, I'm first generation and she was raised where they potty train really really early, I was potty trained essentially by 13 months!!! She said starting at 8 or 9 months she started putting me on the potty and was fully potty trained during the day time by 13 months...I know some ppl may think this is strange, but if anyone has done it really early what was the experience like...
Not trying to cause controversy here, I honestly don't care when she is potty trained at this point, but just wondering what "early' experiences were like!
Thanks!!!

Re: Anyone potty train really early??
My sister started training my nephew at 18 months.. By 2 years old he was completely potty trained. I know that is so far from the norm but I'm going to try. I don't expect it to work and won't be upset if it doesn't but feel like it can't hurt to try. Knowing Rylan it won't...lol.

Re: Anyone potty train really early??
I think it depends on the kid, but my ped told me if you train too early alot of times they wind up regressing later.

Here's what I have heard -- it can take MONTHS to potty train a child that isn't ready.
And DAYS to train a child that is.
So I am waiting until it will only take days -- otherwise the months will catch up to us, KWIM??

Re: Anyone potty train really early??
At 13 months my children didn't even know how to pull their pants up/down without assistance. I can't imagine trying to potty train that early. Whatever works though.

I agree with both of these things.
My DS is two and just TODAY he started being able to just pull down his pants.
It is more about being ready, then anything else.
I was trained by 2, and I think that's early.

I don't think there's anything wrong with trying. I guess by that I mean introducing them to the potty...letting them sit on it and stuff like that. Try to get him to understand what happens on it. Like I said I don't expect anything out of it but IMO it doesn't hurt to try.

Re: Anyone potty train really early??
We started around Christmas. DD was 16 months then. We are still working on it- but DD goes on the potty pretty regularly. I really just wanted to get her used to going on the potty- and so far, it seems to be working!

Re: Anyone potty train really early??
nothing wrong with trying...with my dd, once we switched her to big girl underware (at about 25 months), she did great....she only wears diapers overnight and I plan to stop that this weekend as she has woken up dry for the past week and 1/2

I agree with this. We have a potty and Emma goes on it. Usually before she gets in the tub. I don't want to put in effort of *really* trying yet when I know she just isn't ready to do it consistently.

Re: Anyone potty train really early??
My grandmother watched most of us (me, sis, cousins, etc.) when we were little and started putting us on the potty at 6 months old. We were all trained before 18 months old. It was just the norm back then, I think. I honestly think that absorbency of diapers these days has a lot to do with how long kids stay in them these days.

Re: Anyone potty train really early??
my best friend is chinese and her mom watches her ds (just turned 2). well she says that they train early in china and her mom has been putting her ds on the potty since he could sit on his own. she did it a little at a time with no pressure. they'd just talk, sing and play while he sat a few minutes. then she brought him more often and he pee'd when he went. when she saw him start to push before a poop she put him on too. he's been trained and in underwear for several months already.
with my ds (also just turned 2) i put him on the potty at a young age just to get him comfortable with it and he'd go but i got lazy and stopped trying. for the last month i've been putting him on before his bath but he didn't go. all of a sudden 4 days ago he started asking to go and staying dry all day, he even pooped in the potty yesterday. who knows if it has something to do with the early exposure to sitting on the potty...
i say try it if you want but make sure there is zero pressure and you keep it light and fun.

Re: Anyone potty train really early??
DH is from Poland and MIL says he was trained by 13 or 14 months BUT after talking to her (and you may find this when talking to your mom) the training was more of the parents being trained to bring the child in to the potty every hour and less of the child actually knowing when to go.
A willingness to pee and poop on the potty and knowing the body's signs that it is time to go and being able to hold it until then are totally different things.

Re: Anyone potty train really early??
Our neighbor's daughter was fully potty trained by 18 months or so - but then again, she's the youngest of three, so I think the little girl just wanted to mimic her older sisters.
And of course, Alex wanted to mimic her best friend, so she started showing a real interest around 2 - I wasn't ready, but she was! She was fully potty trained by 2.5

Re: Anyone potty train really early??
I'm glad someone brought this up b/c someone at work is trying to train her 14 mo DD and I can't imagine trying to train my 16 mo DS - my DS can't even talk yet or know what to do with his pants. This person at work says she just puts her dd on the toilet until she takes care of her business. I thought it was too early but its not my place to say anything.
If you can get your dc to train early - more power to you.

Re: Anyone potty train really early??
DD was showing interest at 20 months so we let her sit on the toilet seat anytime she wanted which was quite often (we have Kohler Transitions) Was always waking with dry diapers, we only use Cloth Diapers and shortly after we asked if she wanted to put the diapers away and only wear underwear and she was estatic and was smooth sailing then on...

I actually asked her the specifics they taught me to say "potty" when I had to go and I told them, as for pulling my pants up and down I don't know if I did that myself, but did alert them when I needed to go...who knows, if my mom is willing to help me train DD I'll try I guess..

Re: Anyone potty train really early??
I have to say I was surprised when I saw my newphew and niece still wearing diapers after the age of two. Me and my three siblings all were trained by 12-18 months. My mom was determine to train us so that she didn't have to continue buying diapers. I also learned that children in cloth diapers learn faster then children who were disposables. I was a cloth child and so is my son. I am hoping he will be train early as well.
