Anyone only get 2 sonos? (no growth sono)
I am soo curious about how much weighs. My next doctors appointment is Thurs and I am 34 weeks. The doctor said I only get to sonos. Willl they be able to give me an estimate of how big baby is?

I read in one of the pregnancy books that doctors will measure your belly with measuring tape towards the end of your pregnancy. I'm not sure if my doctor will do that and I'm not sure whether that can really tell them much other than whether you're measuring ahead/behind/on time. I know I'm getting a growth sono around 32 weeks, but every practice is different.

They measured my belly with the tape last time but thats just for growth of the belly not the baby. I will ask more questions on Thurs. I just dont want to be surprised when I deliver and have a huge baby and not know!

I don't know how they'd be able to accurately measure the baby's weight without doing a sono.

They can get a good idea of the baby's size just by using their hands. Growth sonos are notoriously inaccurate, and since providers can get a good idea just by using their hands, many prefer to do that. I'm sure your doc will send you for a sono if he has any concerns about the size after examining you.
I never had growth sonos for my son and won't have them for this one either unless there are complications.
My midwife guessed my son would be about 7 1/2 pounds (from examining me) and he was born 7lbs 5 oz.

Re: Anyone only get 2 sonos? (no growth sono)
I actually just saw my dr today and asked him this. I'm 24 weeks today and he has been consistently measuring my belly for a while now...he said that unless he suspects that my uterus is not growing or at the right stage of the game or he feels the baby is getting to big I will not be getting a growth sono..my doc is old school though too, he doesn't like the whole elective 3d sonos either....

I didn't get a growth sono. They gave me a quickie sonogram while I was in labor and estimated DD to be 7lbs. 9lbs 2oz later...

Re: Anyone only get 2 sonos? (no growth sono)
I was supposed to only get 2 sono's... but then I had bleeding at 5 weeks, so that was one extra sono, and in my 3rd trimester I was diagnosed with GD, so I'm getting a growth sono tomorrow.
Frankly, the growth sono's a notoriously inaccurate, so don't be disturbed that you're not receiving one. If you don't have a condition that warrants the extra concern (like GD), it is unlikely that the baby is unusually small or large....
