 | Anyone mind sharing............. EDITED and UPDATED Just got my AFP results in the mail from my Dr.
Everything said normal, but my chances were much higher than they were from ultrascreen

Just wondering what everyone else's numbers were for HCG and AFP

 Thanks!!

Let me also state that I am 34 so the range for DS was 270
Happy that I am double that; didnt think I'd have # in the 100,000

 | Re: Anyone mind sharing............. I honestly don't recall....
the important thing in your post is that your #'s are normal. so try not to worry

Both are screening tests and use statistics. It's the statistics generating those different #'s as much as your actual test results. So the difference you see is likely only due to that, not due to something with your samples.

if the # differences WERE due to your samples, it would be flagged as being abnormal... but you're fine!

 | Re: Anyone mind sharing............. I haven't had my AFP yet, chances are my doctor tonight will give me a script for it though. I'm very nervous about this test due to the false positive rate, and due to the high false positive rate in women who got pregnant through IVF. This is actually on my list of things to discuss with the doctor tonight. |

 | Re: Anyone mind sharing............. I don't remember my exact numbers. At the ultrascreen trisomy was 1 in 100,000+ and downs was 1 in 44,000 or something close to that. After the quad screen, trisomy stayed the same (1 in 100,000+) and downs went to 1 in 66,000 |

 | Re: Anyone mind sharing............. What were your down numbers? I thought I saw you post somewhere they were in the thousands? At my ultrascreen, mine was not quite at 1000 but I was told my numbers were that of a 27 year old (I'm 37), and that I should consider that as good. |

Hmmm...it could because you are right race is def taken into account. Maybe they take into account both parents' races?

Do you want to share the numbers? I'm sure someone on here may have further insight for you.

 | Re: Anyone mind sharing............. My ultrascreen was 1 : 10,000 (the highest possible number per my doctor)
my triple screen was abnormal at 1:273 (for Downs)

We opted to have a amnio with a FISH because I really could not deal with not knowing. Thankfully my FISH and amnio results came back clear.

I had no intention of having an amnio but because they AFP was abnormal we did it and the peace of mind is so comforting.

 | Re: Anyone mind sharing............. EDITED and UPDATED If you are not planning on an amnio, then I really wouldn't worry about it. I know that sounds easy to do but honestly, from your posts, you are going to have and love this child no matter what. Those numbers are not awful- in fact, based on age alone, mine was 1:250 and my CVS came back perfectly normal. Those numbers are meaningless IMO. Please try not to worry- I am sure all is fine. |

I really didnt plan on having amnio anyway; i just thought i'd have better #'s based on the ultrascreen

 | Re: Anyone mind sharing............. EDITED and UPDATED I wouldn't worry if they got worse than the ultrascreen, just that they are normal for your age.
My risk for downs on the ultrascreen was 1:451, trisomys 1:10,000

My risk for downs on the quad screen/afp went to 1:1250, trisomys 1:250,000.

On the AFP, quad, my risk for neural tube issues was borderline elevated, I had to get a retest and that came back normal. Level 2 sono also verified no neural tube defects present.

Dr said as long as they are withing normal limits, that's all that matters.

I never got the actual numbers for the AFP, my Dr. said they were within normal range so I didn't ask for details.

You could call your Dr. to see what the normal range is

I think she got the quad screen, not just the AFP.
