another preggo told me they determined her babies weight (4.5 pounds...8 months preggo) by putting something on her belly that looked like a fetal monitor...what is that?

hmmmm
I know that when I go, they do a sono and measure the head, belly and various limbs and that is how the determine the weight. I get that at each visit. But, I never head of this. Do they just put it on the belly and numbers come up or something?

Re: anyone know what this is?
When I was in the hospital having Damien, they had told me he would be a 10lber When I was getting set-up the hospital midwife asked me what the weight estimation was. I told her and she did this quick feel around my belly and said,"He won't be more than 8lbs" He was 8lbs exactly
Didn't mean to hijack, but it always makes me laugh that these "medical devices" give these estimates and a midwife is right on the money

They freeze the screen when they see the head, then they outline it. Like, click and drag and make the outline the same exact shape as the head. Then they do that for the belly and the limbs...measure the length and the width, then they press a button and it says how much he weighs.
It's hard to get the picture by my explination. basically, they take the mouse and outline the body parts.

But I havent had a sono since week 20 and I dont think I will be having any more. Is weight only guesstimated based on sono pics?
