And if you see someone unmaksed:

1- they may be fully vaccinated
2 They are NOT necessarily a Trump Supporter.

Please be kind

These people have no answers. Some will probably wear them forever.

I’m still trying to figure out why vaccinated people are so afraid of unvaccinated people? Science says they are protected. But until then....I’ll continue to just shrug my shoulders and move on.

Math/percentages/risk. Most people will look at the 95% protection as being pretty much 100%, so they are safe. There will always be people who look at the 5% break-through cases, and assume that they might be one of that 5%.

The same reason why people think they will win the mega millions lottery.

Exactly. I would hazard a guess and say the majority of vaccinated people feel protected and aren't afraid of anyone, vaccinated or not. I think the assumption that they are afraid is just fabricated drama.

Where masks are concerned, we've now ingrained in our society this new way of living. Some people will have no problem abandoning masks right away, others will proceed with caution. It will take time for the mindset to change and go back to "normal".

If so there wouldn’t be so many still wearing masks around.
NJ has not adopted this yet, correct? You might not be familiar how it is here now.

As of Friday and relax, you've been at this no mask thing just a week. Many will continue to wear masks because it's been ingrained that it's what keeps you safe. Changing that mindset will take time. Basic psychology.

Why do care so f-reaking much whether a person wants to wear it or not? How does it remotely impact you? Do you. Stop concerning yourself with others.

ETA - It seems like you thought just because the mandate was lifted everyone would immediately drop the masks. That was an unrealistic expectation.

Well 2 places I went to about 500 did and then an entire wedding of over 100 did.
Many in stores but not all.

Again, WHY do you care if anyone is masked or not at any given place?

My point was that there WERE many out there 3 days after the announcement.
I don’t care, just stating what I have seen.

But OF COURSE there were those who would immediately rip it off their face. That goes without saying but yet you constantly keep reporting how many people you see unmasked everywhere you go. It's obvious that you care, this issue is seemingly of great importance to you for whatever reason.

Don't be surprised if come the summer, some are still masked. Also, I would bet that you'll see an uptick in those who are masked come the fall in an effort to curb cold and flu germs so they don't get sick. It is what it is.

Sigh, even in those 500 people, some were masked, even a really good friend who I totally understand and he can wear it forever and would still understand.
People ARE interested to find out what stores they can go to so THAT is why I report back. You don’t live here anymore so I get why you are not interested.

The mandate was lifted. People will find out if they STILL need to wear a mask when they walk up to the store.

You know full well you have been consistently obsessed over WHY and WHERE people wear their mask. You're not here for the PSA, you just like to call out and berate those that continue to wear a mask.

The threads are mostly about people being FORCED to wear a mask. Explain the science behind it if half the island is vaccinated. A percentage have natura immunity. Numbers are down. It should be a choice for all.

She has no choice right now where she lives so these posts annoy her it seems.
Don’t read them, easy peasy :)

Sweetie, NY lifted the mandate a week ago. Slow your roll. NJ is lifting the mandate on Friday.

LittleDiva - Businesses can dictate whatever they want, even masks. If you don't like it, don't go there.

Yup and for many it has been a lovely week shopping and doing normal things with others with no restrictions.

I can assure you it was MUCH different and I have seen friends for a year maskless.

Speaking of vaccines and Trump, I was in trader joes’s yesterday and the customer in the checkout next to me asked the cashier about the no mask policy and if anyone had actually stopped wearing one. She politely said no, but she would love to because she is fully vaccinated and it’s hard to spend a whole shift wearing the mask. He screamed that she must be a trump supporter.

That is nuts. Being vaccinated and wishing you did not have to wear a mask all day is reasonable behavior and does not make one a Trump supporter.

I totally agree with you. I am vaccinated, happy to remove the mask, and far, far from a Trump supporter.

The decline of a pandemic is a good thing. The fact that we are at a point where we can remove masks in a number of situations is a good thing. I do not understand why some people seem to want the situation to remain bad!

Could not agree more-and in the same place. Some people have consistently pushed divisiveness and opposed every measure that could contain or end this from the beginning. We are where we are in spite of them.

I am absolutely not a Trump supporter and thought the cashier was correct and the customer was unhinged.

I agree masks should be worn indoors and those who wish to wear them outdoors are free to do whatever makes them comfortable. But my DD is playing soccer in a mask, can’t have in person Daisy meetings, can’t have a dance recital, is masked on the playground and at lunch and will be masked for the entirety of camp. It is 100% a political statement at this point and has no scientific basis.

That is all bonkers.

Indoor stuff with kids, yes people should be masked because they are not vaccinated (your child is young IIRC.) But with many adults vaccinated those events should at least be able to happen. Geez.

Anyone in NY gone to a store today

So my mom, who is 80 is fully vaccinated and has been going out ever since, so she recently went clothes shopping at the mall and other stores. She noticed that there alot of people who are still afraid to remove their masks because others still have theirs on so they feel weird. She loves talking to everyone and talks to random people every where she goes and it seems to be the same reasons. So my mom asked me in our phone conversation last night "how did this world change into people so fearful to do things on their own and willing to follow what the crowd does to not feel bad? Fyi, She happily removed her mask where she could.

How DARE she asked that?? Don’t you know that there could be MANY reasons why?? Detect the sarcasm. While I do agree that people have legitimate reasons and I would never make fun of them, this is EXACTLY what I have been speaking about. So many just following the crowd now and not thinking on their own.
HENCE why this weekend was wonderful to be normal. Dancing, being with people who were not fearful for whatever reason and respect for the ones who wanted to wear a mask. None at the wedding though, just in the more crowded place we went to.

Fear is a terrible thing.
I understand caution but fear will destroy you.
And it seems this year fear and paranoia have taken over to the point of an epidemic and beyond all common sense.
We are talking about FULLY vaccinated people who are still so deathly afraid.
I am not afraid of polio....because I'm vaccinated.
I'm not afraid of measles either.
What the hell good is a vaccine if even that isn't good enough?
I do think there will be a huge market for therapists and psychologists in the coming years.
A sad after effect of this whole thing is mental illness.

Very true and sad as 2 young adults in my area killed themselves last week and I am sure this didn’t help the situation :(

Look what it has done to people on this board alone. The nastiness and back and forth was never this bad. It truly has affected many.

Exactly. My friend is a therapist and sadly has seen way too may people under 18 who have developed depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts because of this whole thing. And even young children who are receiving un needed stress from their parents. Just sad

COVID is now the third or fourth largest mass casualty event in our country’s history. That’s huge. It will take people some time to feel comfortable again, and that’s normal.

I’m sure they were tens of thousands of people that didn’t feel comfortable going into NYC or flying after 9/11, despite having heightened security everywhere. And that was ok too.

Understandable. However, what people fail to realize is you can die in a car accident every time you get on the road.
You can be hit by flying debris walking down the street in NYC (that happened to some woman years ago and I never forgot it)
A gunman can walk into the movie theater or the supermarket or your workplace and kill you on the spot.
Every single day is a risk.
Being vaccinated mitigates that risk to a point where you should be able to go on living normally.
No vaccine is 100% effective. And yet, we all go on with our lives
The fear of this particular virus is like nothing I have ever seen

Re: Anyone in NY gone to a store today

In my area in CT, most people are still wearing masks in certain stores, but have stopped wearing them at outdoor events. Very few people were wearing masks at the hair salon, but still wearing them at grocery stores, Starbucks, bakeries, etc.

It has been nice to exercise without a mask again. I’ve only attended mask optional classes since the mandate was lifted. Almost everyone has been removing their mask after going through the lobby.
