I've made a few for my DD's b-days and friends' kids. I watched some Youtube videos and then made them in Photoshop Elements. Not too hard once you get the hang of it 
ETA: And then I had them printed at Costco as 20"x30" posters for $9.99

Not sure where you live but Sarah at Scout Design shop does an amazing job on hand written signs.
