Anyone here develop PUPPS while pregnant?
I thought I was developing PUPPS but when I showed my OB he said it was just my stretch marks being very irritated.
But I am starting to develop a rash on my arms and legs. Very itchy, just like my stomach.
I wonder if the two "irritations" are related or just coincidental.
If you have had PUPPS or know someone who did can you explain to me what it's like. What the rash looks like, are they raised bumps, does it hurt, etc?

Re: Anyone here develop PUPPS while pregnant?
I developed PUPPPS towards the end of my pregnancy and so did my SIL. It was tiny tiny little bumps that itched like crazy! They started on my stomach and actually made my stretch marks spread and get much worse (I had two before I got PUPPPS) Your best bet is to go to a dermatologist-both me and my SIL were brushed off basically by OB's (Different ones mind you and two years apart) Mine stayed on my stomach and chest area-hers spread everywhere including in btwn her fingers and toes. The best relief we both got was a prescription cream from the dermatologist (she actually wasn't as far along as me so she got different stuff than I did) Hers was so bad they wound up taking her girls early. Mine got better with the cream and I was actually late but the rash had subsided significantly. If you have any questions feel free to FM me. Lots of hugs to you b/c I know how awful it can be

Re: Anyone here develop PUPPS while pregnant?
I believe PUPPs begins on the belly and is raised. I didn't have it but 2 of my friends did.
On the board PrincessMaris had it & a few others.
If you search Pregnancy for PUPPs, you'll find a bunch of women that had it too. You also should search for Cholestatis which is also itchy and you would need treatment for as soon as you can.
I'm assuming your avatar with "20 days to go" refers to your trimester, so you are candidates for both of them. If the rash was only where your waist band was, I'd say he's right. It could be nothing but if your doctor hasn't seen your legs & arms, you need to call him again. Could be anything from prickly heat to poison ivy but you'll see most doctors didn't diagnose the conditions I've mentioned until they were pushed.
In the meantime, oatmeal baths.

Re: Anyone here develop PUPPS while pregnant?
i got it two months before i had dd
it was really bad it was all over my belly legs under my arms. It made my strech marks worse with the bumps. I had just a few of them and then when i got the PUPPS the screch marks got worse.
at night i would screth so hard i would make myself bleed. it is not fun having it they gave me stuff for it and it didn't work. At my 38 weeks app i ask my doctor to be induced cause i was in so much pain.
I got induced cause i was 3cms. He only said he would induce me if i was dialted and i was.
Hope u feel better

Re: Anyone here develop PUPPS while pregnant?
I actually got it 2 days AFTER I delivered my ds. It lasted about 2-3 weeks & it itched like crazy. It started on my belly & spread to my legs, feet & upper arms.
The only thing that helped me was taking warm oatmeal baths.
HTH & when you do a search, you have to type in PUPPPS with 3 p's

Re: Anyone here develop PUPPS while pregnant?
I got it - man did it itch!!!!! I really didnt have much on my belly at all, but my lower legs were covered with little bumps. I tried a number of creams, but you know what worked the best? DESITIN - the diaper rash cream. It would dry out the little bumps and give me a lot of relief. I pretty much spackled it onto my legs for the weeks I had it.

Re: Anyone here develop PUPPS while pregnant?
Thanks for all the info! I may try and find a dermatologist and see if they'll take a look at it.

Re: Anyone here develop PUPPS while pregnant?
I had it too... belly first, then it spread. UGH. Over the counter sarna lotion was the most helpful for me.
I remember being at work and getting wet paper towels from the bathroom, closing my office door and just lying them across my belly to keep myself from scratching..... Its so uncomfortable, I hope you find some relief soon!

Re: Anyone here develop PUPPS while pregnant?
Here is "my story" taken from another post... Hope this helps...
I had one of the worst cases of PUPPS known to mankind...
Mine started @ about 32 weeks.... and they ended up taking DS early @ 37 weeks 3 days (after having an amnio that stated his lung were full developed)
Mine started in my stretch marks and eventually spread EVERYWHERE- I would go w/o sleep for days- and the only time I would sleep was in the bathtub- DH would find me asleep in the bathtub when he would get home from work- he would get so mad at me- but while in the oatmeal bath I would feel the slightest bit of relief!
Sarna cream (not the odorless kind) also was a godsend- again it was min. relief for a short period of time- but it was a sort of relief- I went through like a bottle a day!
I was put on prednisone... it started off at 10mg/ day- I felt NO improvement whatsoever... after crying and pleading with my Dr- she bumped me up to 60mg/day and then after a few days tamper off...
The higher dose did seem to help- but beware steroids are nothing to fool around with- and please make sure you taper off... Lets say I usually took my pill @ 5pm... if I would forget to take it; by 6pm I was a raging lunatic... I would feel so sick and irritable (again this didn't happen with the small dosage- just the higher one)
By the time they took the baby- I was back down to 10mg/day however I had to be on a steroid drip during my c-sect.
Part of me believes that part of the reason the do the steroid treatment is because they know they may have to take the baby early- and they want the baby lungs to be ready (at least in my case) DS was almost 3 weeks early and 7lbs 12oz. and lungs fully developed!
You can search through my old posts.... Im sure I have tons more info in there...
Just know that this isnt nothing- So many Dr.'s dismiss it as no big deal- and it is a big deal- I couldnt even drive a car at the end- I went w/o sleep for days- and was like a Zombie! Its very uncomfortable- and there is no cure but giving birth!
Feel free to FM- I hope I didn't freak you out! I just feel so strongly about people taking it seriously- I had so many people say "so what you are itching- no big deal" and I know 1st hand its so much more than just being itchy
