Anyone have an extra freezer?
what should I look for in one?
I am realizing that even with 29cu ft my freezer fills ups fast!

Re: Anyone have an extra freezer?
We have an upright, commercial freezer in our garage. We got it at Sears many years ago.
I chose an upright with shelves so that I could store trays of food - overall, it was a better option for us than a chest freezer.
The one thing I had to have was one that did not have to be defrosted! I did not want manual defrost! Kind of defeats the purpose of having a freezer.
We've had it nearly 10 years and not one issue with it and never had any ice build up in it. Love it!

Re: Anyone have an extra freezer?
Oh, my, we have a huge old fashioned chest freezer, that was in the basement of a house we bought, 30+ yrs. ago. We moved it a couple times, and it wasn't easy!!! But, it's taken a lick'in, and keeps on tick'in!!!! I would prefer a new energy efficient space saving upright, but knowing DH, if it ain't broken, why buy a new one?!!! Mary

I have an upright - I don't know the cubic feet but I love it.
The only must for me was that it be upright...
We also got our at Sears.

Re: Anyone have an extra freezer?
you are right about the upright. I remember having one in my home in East NOrthport growing up and it was so great to have things like ice cream, snacks, ect extra on hand. I want the same to be able to stock up on.
Never thought about upright DUH!

Re: Anyone have an extra freezer?
DH got one off of Craigslist for $100 bucks last year! It's the same size as a refrigerator, but all freezer.

We have an upright freezer we bought from Best Buy.
We bought it last year. It's a Frigidaire 13.7cu ft black upright.
Best recommendation I can make is review consumer reports, go check them in person and then do online reviews re: noise.

Re: Anyone have an extra freezer?
definitely an upright vs a chest! i grew up having a chest freezer and it seemed like things got lost or forgotten at the bottom.

Re: Anyone have an extra freezer?
We have a chest freezer that we got at a scratch and dent sale a few years ago. We love it. It actually has a lot of areas and baskets to stay organized. This one was more energy efficient than the uprights that we looked at too. We keep ours in the basement.

we have an upright in our basement. I love it. i don't think I would like the chest. We got ours at Sears. I went in with prices from HD and they beat them.

Re: Anyone have an extra freezer?
Lately I've been thinking of getting one but never mentioned it to DH. Well last time we were at Lowes he wandered over to them! We were both surprised that they were pretty cheap. They had a nice looking chest for around $100.
