Anyone have a DC with asthma???

DS has had a few cases of bronchitis/bronchiolitis and also had pneumonia back in September. The doctor is in the process of building a case for asthma (apparently it isn't something that gets diagnosed quickly). Anyway, DS has a nebulizer for albuterol and steroid treatments. 2 QUESTIONS....

1. Do you use the albuterol regularly and the steroid as the emergency drug? Or vice versa?

2. Does your child throw up often when they have a coughing attack? DS threw up four times today! This doesn't happy regularly, but it does come in waves and lasts a few days before it calms down. It's usually after milk too.

DS has asthma and had his first attack when he was a year old...he was in the hospital for 2 days. He is now 6 and uses his nebulizer regularly with pulmocort. He only uses albuterol when he is wheezing or has a congested cough. He has only had an oral steroid twice so far when the albuterol wasn't working....usually when he has a bad cold that settles in his chest. DS did throw up from the mucous...that happened more when he was little.

DS is 1 in 3 weeks and as you said they dont usually diagnose asthma this young. But the Doctor is convinced it is. I have gone to 1 specialist already and going to another next week as per the peds advise. He said he would rather get everything else ruled out so that they can do a definite diagnosis.
DH has asthma so we know it is. DS has been on Levelbuterol about 6 months now. In the beggining it was only as needed. He has had an oral steroid 2 times since Christmas because his breathing was so bad. Now he is on Levelbuteral 2 times a day along with another maintenance drug in the nebulizer. I cant remember the name right now. I was told the goal is to get him on the maintenance medication 2 times a day and the levelbuteral only if he has an attack. Steroid only in worst cases. Since we started the routine with the maintenance medication he has been clear thank god. Before now when we weaned him off the levelbuterol he would get really wheezy again within 2 or 3 days.
DS has never thrown up thank god. But if his cough is that bad he definitly needs the oral steroid to clear him up fast. Milk is the worst for babies when they have a cough as it makes it more mucusy (spelling ??). DS would never drink milk when he has a cough. HTH. Asthma is a pain but once we get the right maintenance it should be easier to manage.
