Anyone go to a wedding with an 8-10 month old?

My DH's cousin is getting married in January and he's the best man. My son will be almost 9 months old by then. My MIL has the brilliant idea of bringing him, she's also convinced DH that it's a great idea. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Me son is already all over the place and loves to crawl and cruise on furniture. How is he going to sit still in his stroller? Do catering halls even have high chairs? I'm also concerned about the loud music. And the party will probably be over by 11pm. I just feel like brining him will be such a pain in the butt. The only person on my side of the family I trust him with is my cousin (my parents are deceased so no grandparents). I am telling my DH I want to leave him with my cousin but he won't hear it. As much as I adore my son I just want a night out to enjoy without having to worry about him.
Any advice? Sorry, I just needed to vent...

Re: Anyone go to a wedding with an 8-10 month old?

My brother got married when my DD was 10 months old...it was a lot of work to have a baby at a night wedding (though she did eventually fall asleep)...I didn't have any choice being that the wedding was on Cape Cod and we were there for a week (my inlaws were there and supposed to help me with the baby and my other daughter, but they were too busy enjoying themselves to help us at all...another story!)...if I had a choice and the wedding wasn't too far away, I would leave the baby with a babysitter and enjoy my night out!

I would ask the couple getting married if your cousin could come and hang out in the bridal suite for a bit with DS then take DS home if he is upset or if it gets too late - a little compromise. DH's family gets to see DS, and you have an escape plan.

My sil got married when ds was 6 months old. We brought him to the church and then he went to my moms for the reception. Can you compromise and do something like that?

It think it depends on the individual child really. If yours is very flexible then it may not be so bad. We do not have a set schedule but ds absolutely MUST be in bed by 8:30-9 or he totally loses it. I did not want to risk this being an issue at the wedding!

I think you entitled to a nice night out with your DH without chasing a baby around. I would push to leave DS a home.

IMHO bringing a baby to a wedding benefits nobody.
Not the parents of the baby, not the bride and groom, not the guests and especially not the baby.
I would find a sitter.

Are you sure the baby is even invited??

Regardless, I would leave the baby with your cousin, so you and DH can enjoy a night out.

I brou my 10 month old to my bil wedding and she had a ball!!! I didn't have that much fun bc I was running after two kids. I left early though. My kids had to come bc the wedding was out of state and was not leaving them behind.

unless it was an OOT wedding and you were totally stuck I wouldn't. Totally no need for him/her to be there and much more work for you.

I would enjoy the night out with DH alone!

I was thinking this as well. I've done this for a friend of a friend before actually...gone to the wedding to help with the little ones and then hanging with them in a suite while they slept. I also went to another wedding recently where they did the same for one of the LOs. If you can bring your cousin and have her take the baby out and maybe set up a pnp somewhere quiet that could work. Otherwise maybe bring DC for the ceremony and leave him with your cousin after. But even that is usually done when the child is in the wedding party. Another idea...maybe you can just bring him to the rehearsal dinner so close family can see him and leave him home for the wedding.

My sister got married when DS was 10 months old. He was in the wedding and then after the ceremony, we had a babysitter (she is a friend of the family) at the reception. We brought a PNP and he slept through most of the reception. We put the PNP in the bridal suite.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'm going to end up just bringing him to the church, then leaving him with my cousin,

Re: Anyone go to a wedding with an 8-10 month old?

We brought DS1 to SIL's wedding when he was 5 months. It was an afternoon wedding. He did great. My brother got married when DS was 11 months. It was an evening wedding. He went to the ceremony and cocktail hour. Then, we had a babysitter watch him in a room at the reception for the rest of the night.
