Anyone ever vacation in Maine with young ones?

We want to go this summer, but are clueless about what places to stay with young ones. Ds's will be 4 1/2 and 16 months. Any tips/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Please don't move to travel, as I'm specifically looking for moms input bc of the kiddies. Thx!!!!!

We went last summer (DS was 12 months) and stayed in the Kennebunkport area (Goose Rocks) at a vacation rental. We found it on vrbo.com. We chose this area b/c it wasn't that far north. The distance was perfect.

We stayed in a two bedroom rental. The rental was practically brand new and was fully equipped with everything we needed. (full kitchen, washer, dryer, pool (indoor and outdoor), playground etc.) We hope to go back in the years to come. I would suggest booking early. We waited (we were traveling with family) and a lot of the places were booked.

It was the perfect place to go with a small child. We cooked some nights in the unit and went out as well. Many of the dining establishments were very child friendly. The beach was relaxing and not too hot. The town was cute. We took a drive to Portland and the outlets in Freeport for the day.
